Must have a leg band? You mean if I sell in NH I have to band ALL my swap birds?

Does NH realize that ABA legbands cost money? I only band my show birds.

I think they mean the bands the state tester puts on when each bird is tested. When the MA tester was here in April she mentioned any chickens/turkeys over 5 months old being taken into NH must have a leg band as proof of being tested. That's also what the other NH swaps thread says.

That's why I'm trying to clarify things, since the Dept of Agriculture told aceschix that only proof of the flock being tested is necessary.

but since maine doesn't require us to have bands, where would we even get them and if the tester is to put them on that requires all the birds to be tested again if they were not banded at the time of the test (otherwise how could you prove that bird was tested??) too much hassle for me to sell there as an out of stater.

Just sent a new email off to the State. Since she is back from vacation (I hope) I sent a bulleted list for clarification. I will share as soon as I know.

I believe if you have testing proof of both items that NH requires that we can make it work.

That said...here are two answers from Cindy at NH Dept. of Ag.

Maine residents have to send me proof that their birds have been tested negative for Pullorum Salmonella & Avian Influenza within the last 12 months and all birds over 20 weeks (5 months) have to be leg banded for ID purposes. Any birds under 20 weeks have to have proof that they came from a flock that was clean for the above tests within the last year or have NPIP certification.

ME does not usually test for Avian Influenza and it is required for birds to come into NH as well as a negative test for Pullorum Salmonella. Their tests results have to be negative within 12 months from the date they want to come into NH. Any birds they bring into their flock after they’ve been tested are prohibited unless they are also tested negative. Depending on their test negative date will dictate the length of the permit I will give them. If their testing results end in July, then the permit will only be good until July.

Well, now I need to know more about how to do this. Some birds came from a seller who I'll talk to but the others were bought through a 'dealer.' I'm feeling like its a little late for me to get all this info or research it to know how My own fault.

Oh I am so glad! I had hoped for more Lewiston swaps. I called to ask about them. He offered to make a sign for out front so take him up on that! If I can help let me know. Times??
