Maine chicken swaps 2010

I don't question that it was small. I tried to sign up my chickens to exhibit (not show) and no one got back to me. they were paying people to exhibit but not show birds so maybe that felt they had enough. my son went as a school field trip, he usually cna't wait to leave, more for adults then kids his age (in my case anyway)

The fair is definitely geared more for adults. There were a couple of talks I would like to have stayed for but by that time the kids had had enough. Jonathan just wanted to watch the train go by, and Katherine wanted her tractor ride back to the parking lot. It's not like they were bored all day, doing stuff in the kids' area, walking through all the livestock areas, as well as the folk arts tents and sales area (checking out the chicken coops for sale!). Jonathan is convinced he wants a couple of angora rabbits and a spinning wheel. Katherine wants pigeons.

Many of the entries were hatchery birds. There were some barred rocks that weren't too bad, a bunch of blue and black bantam wyandottes, 2 mixed turkeys, some really small Sebastopols, and a bunch of d'Uccles. I have a feeling they want to keep entries down so they can have fewer rows and less congestion.

I noticed Tractor supply co on civic center dr is having a chicken swap on sunday oct 3rd, I did not notice the time of the event but these are typically it runs 8-2 or 9-1, call them for more info.
this is also the same day as the poultry show held at the windsor fair grounds- show will start about 9:00 and have tail gate sales as well. food truck will be there and many raffles and the drawing for the chicken theme quilt.

Is anyone planning on going to the swaps this weekend? I am moving to AK in two weeks and trying to find a good home for my hybrid rooster Ursus (i.e. where he can have his own flock of hens/not be dinner). He's about 3 months old and a really nice/friendly bird. Beautiful colors (green, flecks of rust). His mom is a partridge cochin and dad is a white capped polish. I've never been to one of these swaps before and am wondering what kind of chance I have at finding someone interested in a rooster...These are all an hour+ drive for me one way from the Bangor area). As I hatched him myself, he hasn't been tested for anything yet. Any advice? Anyone interested?

i have posted roosters on craigslist for free and they move pretty fast, the roosters I have brought to swaps I have also had to give away but there was more competition from others giving away roosters. try craigslist today and if you don't have a home for him, the swap can be a back up.

sorry that was a bad typo, ment to say craigslist, but you could post them on your facebook page and as others to pass it along. but craigslist is where I post mine.

I have 2-3 black copper marans hens looking for homes- pm me if interested. I am looking for trade for layer pellets or will consider 1 dozen hatching eggs in the spring if you have a separate flock of marans (no mix breeds)
2 are not feather legged and one is. will discuss details by pm/email. I am not going to the chickenstock in augusta this sunday.

I am looking for two hens / pulletts. I am bringing my beautiful youg black roo, but someone has said that they are interested in him.
