Welcome HennyRoo, you have just joined the finest group of new friends that you could ever meet! This is one amazing site. Everyone celebrates or cries with each other when needed and lends a helping hand when they can.

There is a pretty strong following of horse people too in the "other pets and livestock" section of the forum.

I have some chicken fabric related totes bags and an egg picking bags that I will bring to the show. I will donate one to the auction.

The grounds does have tie stalls that has a roof for some shelter. The other buildings as far as I know will be locked. I suspect there may be power available on some of the poles and the stall area. MM do you have a way to find out what is available for power there? There should also be water available in the barn area.

HennyRoo, if you are asking about kitchen facilities, I don't believe we will have any available to us.

Thanks! From what i've read so far, it looks like a very supportive community!

My pastor and his wife came over for dinner last night and we took them on a tour. He said, "goodness, how many animals do you HAVE here?" After I did the mental math I was astounded myself... we have:

26 turkeys
24 Cornish rocks
29 pullets (RIR, Silver-laced Wyandottes, Plymouth Barred Rocks, and White Leghorns)
7 horses (one's a miniature, one's a draft)
1 smokey Angus heifer
1 dog
2 cats
2 pet rats

Then of course, there are the four of us humans, lol. That's a total of 96 mouths to feed and lives to be responsible for... And I think even those critters we intend to use for food deserve every attention to humane care and dignity until that day... I reminded my pastor that in the Bible, it's called "dominion" over the animal kingdom, nowadays referred to as "good stewardship," and it's a responsibility I take very seriously but find that there is a lot of joy and personal reward in raising animals.

Anyway, thanks for the welcomes and I do look forward to providing a sumptuous repast for all you ChickenStock attendees! Suggestions are totally welcome!

Whatever we have available to us, we'll make it work. Cold-plate types of fare are easier and quicker to prepare and usually just as popular as grilled food. If we have power available, we can bring a refrigerator to keep things cold. Or we can "rough it" and bring everything in a bunch of coolers.

Here are my menu ideas so far:

Sub-type sandwiches and wraps (ham, turkey, baloney, chicken salad, ham salad, tuna, egg salad, cheese, vegetarian)
Chips
Water
Soda
Juice boxes/pouches
Brownies
Cookies
cupcakes
Whoopie Pies
Fruit (apples, oranges, bananas)

We'll also try to get some pies pre-made for a pie raffle/silent auction.

I welcome all suggestions!

HennyRoo Welcome to the gang! You are a peach for all you do in the name of animals. We here at BYC cheerish our critter kids and find it wonderful to see that there are people out there to support those in need. It must be rewarding/heartbreaking, I know I couldn't do that job, someone would end up beaten if I saw a beaten animal. GRRR.
The cold sandwhiches sound great! Thank you for the pie for the table, great idea!

Anyone have items that can go onto the "kids" auction table? I will pick up items from the dollar store, fun things, coloring books, crayons etc.

Great Job verthandi, perhaps you should mention to the grain folks that the TSC came close to selling out their stock of avian grains, waterers and some cages. Its a great sale day.

could you folks PM me with any offerings on the Chinese (silent) Auction, thank you! Its just so I can make a note of how much space I'll need. Thankyou very much!

Would the sales of food go to the equine rescue?
I dont think we have access to any of that. One of the things with us using the grounds for free was not using an electricity or I would have to pay the electrical bill and I have enough electrical bill at home ..... lol..

I will ask if we can have just at least one area of power for cooking but I dont know

ETA: The only power I believe we will have is the bathrooms and that may be our water source as well.

I have a good size generator if it is needed. I haven't run it this year but can get someone to start it up and do maintenance on it. I hate the noise it makes, but it is a source of electric.

Hemphill's has donated a 50lb bag of oyster shell. We discussed maybe breaking it down into small bags so they could be handed out to more people. Anyones thoughts on this would be welcome. Maybe like the first whatever number of people arriving recieve one. I will be following up with her next week when I do my grain run. They will not be able to attend as vendors as it is haying season for them and sunday is the only day that the store is closed. I forgot ask for something for childrens raffle, but I will when I go back.

A couple of the employees will be attending the show, one looking for a new americana rooster for her flock.

Knight's owner was not in today, but I left contact information with his daughter. I did find out the the other Knight's store that is nearer the fair grounds is owned by a brother so I will try to contact him also.

Agway I was disappointed talking to them. The owner sent one of his employees to tell me that they don't do "fairs". Guess that got twisted in translation? And was given a polite donation form that says their primary focus is philanthropic efforts to support disadvantaged children and families. And if I felt my request meets these goals that I should fill out the form and submit it to their headquarters. I can understand the choices they have made and the need in this area. I also understand the amount of requests that they must receive daily.

After the interest that I received at Hemphill's and Knight's I am feeling very positive about this event going well. There was interest from many people. I am not very good with graphics for a flyers. If anyone gets one done and is willing to share it so I can print some to post locally I would appreciated it.
