Maine Swaps 2011

I went to a few swaps last year and found that people selling -- come in and set up at all times some are early and some don't set up till around 10 or 11 I even seen a fella pull in over to oxford around noon . You'll find good buys from beginning to end of the swap . Don't think it's to late -- really rare that the early bird gets the only worm at farm swaps . Come when you can hope to see ya there . Oh ya and last time I seen the weather report -- it should be clear till saturday evening --- Just incase it does decide to rain come prepared . RAIN or SHINE I'll be there - I'll be bringing Silkie chicks - speckled sussex bantam x colors chicks -- RIR chicks -- Bardrock x chicks -- Buff Orp chicks -- We also have some grown hens we are parting with they are going on 2nd yr. a couple of mallard hens . All of are chicks are well started don't need heat and have already been introduced the growing pens . Could have a few breeds or items more then listed we haven't really set our minds to what we will bring yet . If there is something particular you are looking for you can email me at [email protected] if I don't have it -- I can usally find it for you ~~~~~ Tammy

Very true! When we went to a swap last year we didn't show up untill 1230ish. ( Silly husband thought it would be a good idea to paint the wheels on the truck the AM of the swap?!) Anyways, There wasn't many people still there when we went, but we were still able to sell the rabbits we brought and then find more animals to bring home! Excited for the wilton swap!

Well I went to OXFORD last year and Most chicks and adults were gone by 10 am. None of my chicks are from Hatcheries! I am also NPIP & AI Tested. And who cares when or if the rain starts, So long as we all have a good time and make NEW Friends!

I know thats what I am most excited about is meeting and connecting with other local farmers. ( can you tell I don't get out of the house much?

) I'm hoping though, that I can find my animals I've been looking for at the early swaps since nesting is setting in ( 27 weeks pregnant) and I don't want to travel around the state this summer with 3 screaming kids

That's funny, I care about the Sanford swap and have read though all the Maine swap posts as well. I am trying to run the swap in Sanford and welcome all to come.

I have either participated or visited everyone else's swap from Oxford, Augusta & Lewiston.

Congratulations! I don't get out of the house much either, due to my mom who isn't doing well, also the gas prices tend to keep me home too and the icey roads! I'm glad its Spring, Tulips and daffidils are up. The birds are singing again, The chicks are hatching out. All signs of new life!

I Look forward to meeting new people also - I enjoy getting to know fellow farmers and heritage poultry breeders . Almost forgot to mention I will also be raffleing off a 50lb bag of chick starter . I'm a member of Northern New England Bird Fancier club and will have a raffle table set up along with info about the club . We have decided to bring the horse trailer in case it rains ( I do care -- I have young birds I wouldn't want to get wet and I'm useing the canopy to keep me and my family dry if it does rain ) I beleive there are many breeders that bring their birds and other quality livestock to the swaps . I am also NPIP and AI certified as many are that come . They also show in the local and sanctioned club shows . ( It's a requirement ) I'm not a hatchery nor do I have hatchery birds . I breed for quality not quanity . I cann't keep everyone I hatch so I bring them to the swaps . ( It sure helps pay some on the grain bill
