Maine Swaps 2011

on sunday (tomorrow) april 17th central maine bird fanciers
Youth Program

On Sunday, April 17th, we will be offering our annual Youth (and anyone else interested) Education Program. This will take place on the same day as our monthly club meeting. Austin Brann will be available starting at 10:30 a.m. to do Pullurom testing on your birds. Coffee will be available. Feel free to bring birds along for tailgate sales and swaps (only members can sell).

At 11:00 a.m., we will begin the education program. Sarah Castle, one of our premier Junior exhibitors, will talk about the top 5 things a competitor should focus on in preparing for showmanship. Allison Flagg will teach the parts of a chicken and parts of a duck, with real birds to demonstrate. These are things all poultry enthusiasts should know. Linda Blackman will touch upon general guidelines for poultry show room etiquette.

You don't have to be a member to attend this program. All are invited.

Meetings are held at the Evening Star Grange Hall in Washington Maine.
Which is located on the south side of the Old Union road at the intersection of Bill Luce road and Old Union road in Washington off route 220.
The building opens at 11:00 am for coffee and conversation.
Pot Luck lunch at Noon.
Meeting at 1:00 pm followed by an auction.
(please bring an auction item donation, all proceeds helps to pay for hall rental expenses.)
come to bid on who knows what, sometimes it's birds, hatching eggs, plants, antique glass ware and just last month, I won some groceries!!

Austin will be able to test birds at all meetings.

Do you have any times yet on the Windsor event? I'll definitely stop by that day.

Wish I could have made it to E Wilton today. It's a nice day. Which is why the kids want to run around outside instead of taking another car ride, and they won't get much outdoor time tomorrow.

last yr, the windsor poultry show opened the gates at about 7:00am for set up and some birds were cooped in the night before. I think the show started at 9:00-9:30 but vendors were set up by then. I will find out details tomorrow at the poultry club meeting. I'm not sure if you needed to be a club member to sell, there was a fee and you did need to be NPIP tested. I'm not 100% sure if they were testing that day or not, I believe they were testing.

I had mine tested a month ago, but I doubt I'll bring anything for sale. We'll just come to look around.

Oh. Cindy the kids need to bring something to show if you are going to be in Maine that week end anyways

Sarah isn't going to have any ducks to show this year after being wiped out of her Runner's and no Hamburgs. Lucky most of her main show birds were in the above ground pens and young ones are still in the chick room.

I'll have to see what isn't molting, in a breeding pen or broody. There's one blue silkie pullet that's in good feather right now. Not sure on the others! What about oddball colors? There's always Sammy the splash salmon roo.

Even though it was a bit cold I had a great day, AT THE WILTON TSC SWAP, sold lots of chicks and a couple of silkies. Lots of lookers and buyers, I was wiped out by 11am! I even sent DH back to the house to get more chicks, but by the time he got back, things had died down, and then the wind pick up and mad it even colder, so I left around noon.

info on the central maine bird fancier show with tailgate sales.
theis may 29th. in order to sell at the tailgate sales, you must either be a club member or have a bird entered in the show. birds being shown / sold, must originate from a NPIP tested flock. fee to sell is $10.00. set up time- still iffy, about 8:00am but maybe earlier.
I will post entry form info to the show for those wanting to enter birds in the show later.
