Maine Swaps 2011

In case anyone is interested Poulin grain is doing a chick seminar starting at 10 AM on April 30th at Longhorn Supply in Buxton. It is free to attend.
I went a couple years ago. It is basic information but there are door prizes and free refreshments. Andrew Beals does the talk and sticks around after the seminar to answer any questions people have about any Poulin products. He has been a great help to me in trying to find a diet that will keep weight on my hard keeper horse.
After the talk Ever After Mustang Rescue will be there with a couple of mustangs for people to see. So if you have thought about adopting a mustang or just want to meet one this would be a great chance. Or you can just come and visit mine especially if you have any ideas on how to convince her that a halter is not some evil alien that is going to eat her.

they sell all ages, just depends on what people have. sometimes people are getting out of one breed or have too many extras.
closer to fall, plenty of roosters, spring is more chicks.

Also a lot of people trying to sell their 1 and 2 year old laying hens to make way for their new chicks. You can usually find good deals on them.

I will be going to the Oxford and Lewiston swaps. (possibly Augusta). Is anyone planning on bringing any young laying hens. I'm looking for some pullets that are just about ready to lay. Not looking for 2 year old hens. Not looking for chicks. Not set on a breed as long as it is standard size and a good layer. I am only in need of 4 or 5 hens. Thanks.

As of today I think I will be bringing some Buff Orpingtons to Lewiston. They will be 10 weeks old so will still be a couple months away from POL. I have 11 but still can't decide who is a pullet and who is a roo. I want to keep at least three pullets. I have a co-worker who may want a couple. So that means I might have 6 available. I also may bring a couple EE pullets who will be a bit over 16 weeks old at the time of the swap. By the end of next week I will be more positive as to what I want to part with. Depends on how the younger chicks I have in the brooder turn out.

Also have a couple NN roosters and at least on EE roo available. They will be 16 weeks old for Lewiston. And if anyone is interested in one or two Pekin drakes I can try and bring them. They are a year old and are destined for the freezer but if someone really wants them I will try and round them up.
