Maine Swaps 2011

agreed on all points.

is it scarborough that has the small parking lot, or shared lot? seems like a few years back i approached them as well, and that was a factor for them if it is the one i am thinking of

It is shared with Seavey's Appliance . But the groups I have seen have stayed over on the TSC side of the parking lot. Seavey's is closed on Sundays so if the swap was held on a Sunday I don't see how a shared parking lot would be an issue. Plus with the economy I would think stores would welcome any traffic they could get so I don't see why a Saturday would be rejected. But that is just me.

When chicks are under 8 weeks old, they are still cute, peeping and need warmth to keep them healthy as down does not contain heat as well as feathers. That law also stops impulse buying for those parents that give their kids everything, and there is a documented case with ducklings that were sold one spring and when fished out of Deering Oaks park pond there in Portland, many had broken wings, legs, beaks broken or jaws broke. So, now, as chicks, if you don't have room for 6, then contact a breeder that can sell you 8 week and under chicks singular from their farm. There is away around the law.
Following the laws in any state keeps us from having to license a chickenstock, and keeps TSC or whomever sponsers these events from paying large fines and loosing their license/permit to sell chicks in the store. Its just a law folks, why does it seem "criminal" to follow a few basic rules?

I am very glad Stano and wish I could come to yours on June 11! Dang, if only I had paid better attention, Oh well, you will see us hanging out on your doorstep pretty soon!

Keep in mind with the 8 week old and under must be sold in lots of 6, or 8 weeks old puppies and kittens, not everyone knows how to take care of a chick or puppy and on top of that, its just plain old animal welfare. This is something we should be sharing with the public, how to care for, feed and house our critters.

Hmm decisions, decisions, not sure which swap we are going to next. Trailer is almost finished ( thank goodness! so we can bring the van with the kids and keep them entertained better

) have 2 litters of bunnies due soon, and ducklings and chicks due to hatch june 1st. Still need to get my nursery finished before july!

I just started a thread for the augusta swap on may 21st. I know it's early but I have people asking what kinds of birds people are bringing.
so post over there what you have (yes we understand if you sell ift before time) and I have started a want list of what the public is asking for.

these are people looking in the augusta area but if you hear of someone looking and there is another swap in their area, let them know and post it to that thread so maybe we can connect people with birds.

Back from the Oxford swap AND still no laying hens. I wish I was looking for ducks. Lots of those to be found. Does anyone know of any laying hens for sale that are not baby chicks or 3 years old? I'm only looking for 4 or 5.
