I have been trying like mad to load this picture to my avatar and it keeps saying there is an error.... but here it is loading fine in here.... ugh
Weird! Now it is loaded despite the error message. Computers really aren't any smarter than... well most of us. lol

Lazy, last year I used a giant heated dog bowl, it is dark blue in color. I got it at petco. You have to keep it plugged in. I ran an extension cord into their coop. It worked really well. But I did run out of water on a few occasions, I think the heat makes it evaporate a bit quickly especially when it gets low.

Hope the cat is feeling better. My dog that did that for a few days then just stopped.

Yes as a nurse I am always talking about poop...so this is everyday for me lol!!!

My kids and I are rhe same...window open snow coming in or ac on when its 40 out with a fan too...my husband doesn't like us 6 mo out of the yr.

I would be happy to keep the house cooler... but my husband... now, that's a different story. Why is it that opposites attract, even down to warm vs. cold, meat and potatoes vs. lots of veggies, skip the meat, thanks, I want to make my garden bigger vs. he wants more manicured lawn, Good morning Lord vs. Good Lord morning! All I can say is : Thank God for love!

The world revolves around poop and pee in the SNF environment!

Quick question: is it "being broody" if she refuses to let me collect the eggs, but stays off the nest the rest of the day after I've booted her? We've been doing this three mornings in a row now.
Awesome pics Ash! I wish I were more involved with my camera.

Thanks Anya. I may go the dog bowl route, perhaps 2 so I can continue with FF. I'll probably run electric out to the coop instead of using the battery. (will need electric anyways in the spring. I WILL NOT BROOD CHICKS IN THE HOUSE PAST THE FIRST WEEK AGAIN!)Would the heated bowl crack if the power went out and the water froze? If the heated bowl goes dry, does it overheat?

I don't think it would crack. The plastic is super thick. No, it doesn't overheat. It actually works great. I definitely recommend it.

Updated pictures of my girls. I currently have 6 out of 8 laying. They range in age from 22 weeks to 16 months.

MLowen: that fence in the foreground of your pic showing the leghorns in the ?asparagus... is that a cattle panel? if so, will it actually keep them from going through?
It's actually a "portable paddock" -- temporary fence I got the inspiration for from a link posted on the DIY or Fermented Feed thread. It's 2x4 welded wire (4 ft high by 100 ft roll) supported by 4 ft 2x4 lumber with cross pieces on the bottom. It's more of a "in the vacinity" supervision system than a "leave them out in it while I'm at work" system.

I posted pictures of mine on the DIY thread the other day. I can't post here, now, because I'm on my work computer..no pictures. I'll be glad to post them here tonight if you want.

A few more chick pics! (apologies for the img size, tap-a-talk defaulted them as "WAY TOO F'ING BIG" for the size selection it would seem).

I was nervous all 17 wouldn't fit in the temporary brooder

Here are the newbies.

FTR the pics from earlier are my neighbor's. The geese really like the large shallow puddle in his dirt driveway so when they visit he takes pictures.
And here, for those who might remember my first gosling, Verbena, is my darling girl now:
