Maine

Okay fellow Mainers do you or anyone you know want to add a new family member to your household? Word has got out that I work with a rescue so it was only a matter of time before someone asked for my help. Long story short there is a 7 year old Shepherd/Beagle mix named William in southern Maine who needs a soft place to land ASAP. He is neutered, up to date on shots, well behaved, likes people. He is the victim of divorce and is headed for the shelter by the end of the week if no one steps forward to take him.

SanCarlos: I'm getting day olds from Murray McMurray by way of Aubuchon. (they're all sold out for early shipments, but you may be able to pre-order some for a bit later in the season. I've found that if you want anything specific from a hatchery, you'd better order VERY early in the season, even if you don't want ship date until much later.) I hear that Cackle has a good line of Doms. There's a lady in NH who has hatching eggs. I forget what her screen name is, I think it begins with D... If you go to the Dominique thread, and ask, you should be able to get her name. You're not too far from me. I'm in Winterport. My 12 y.o. has gone to Camp Fairhaven for a week for the past 2 summers.

Bucka: Love the potato! I bet they were wondering what kind of egg it was, the way they carefully excavated around it. My girls dug a few potatoes for me last fall. I never would have found them, as I hadn't planted any potatoes there, unless they dug them for me.

I took an egg out to candle for my 7 y.o. tonight. It was fun to see that chick dancing through the eyes of a child.

Finally planting some peppers, tomatoes, and dahlia seeds tonight.

Hey! How small our circles are when we put two and two together! I was camp nurse for a week at Fairhaven last year, and will be returning the 3rd week of July this year. I wish I could do more, but I can't right now.

Sweet. Keep your eye out for a skinny 6' tall 13 year old, with braces, named Eli. I sent both of my kids there, and they both had stints as counselors, now, my grandson is attending. Got 2 more grand kids to put through their program! Yankee, may I ask where you are working, when you're not a camp nurse?? I bet our paths have crossed. PM if you don't want to go public. I can't PM. Computer not compliant.

You must know my sister, Tara, then. She was their nurse in the years before last year and also their assistant director. Really small world

Widget,

My brother and SIL are looking for a small, friendly dog. They have an itsy bitsy house with an even smaller yard, so they can't have anything too big. She's been looking for a Puggle or Jug (Beagle/Pug cross and Jack Russell Terrier/Beagle cross), but I think she's open to different breeds, providing they are smallish. They have 2 teen boys, and one cat. The only catch is they are way up in Van Buren (top of the state really!) We're headed up there this weekend, and again in late May. PM me what you know of needing a home.

No more goose eggs today but a nice man and his wife picked up some chicks today.  More are coming Wed so it was nice to have the room.  I have the Augusta swap on the calendar but its been so darn cold I worry about them.  Today's went home in a nice box with a hot potato for warmth on the ride.  IDK that I want to have a 'cooler' of heated potatoes on hand but maybe I will need to.

This sounds like a deal! Buy a few chicks and go home to enjoy a baked potato. You may want to pack little sides of butter and sour cream......:D

I haven't had a chance to share with you all...we're getting eggs now and then....chicken eggs!!!!!! I am so happy! The hens found the old rabbit hutch and laid 2 in there (either the hens crushed one, or my dog ate one...not sure how one was broken yet). I blocked up the hutch so they can't get in there any longer, and they are laying in their nest boxes. I will need to buy a few dozen eggs this week, since an egg every day just isn't enough for us, but hopefully soon I won't be buying any more eggs.
