Maine

North Chicken, Our local Aubuchon orders their chicks from Murray McMurray. You might be able to get your ducks special ordered through your closest Aubuchon. I know that Brewer has an order coming in on April 7. There are now some sex linked ducks available, and they are good egg layers.

North Chicken, perhaps I could help. I'm from Cross Lake originally, and will be headed up to the county this weekend, as well as Memorial Day, and again in late August :)

Sweet. I'm totally open to bringing some up for her. I know first hand how frustrating it can be to live in Northern Maine and be without easy access to some things.

I'm going to ferment it anyways, so will the particle size be small enough for hatchlings, if it's a mush consistency? I'm going to keep it b/c I'm all out of feed otherwise, but if anyone has feed back for me, I'm all ears.

You could always crush it up on your own, right? Toss some into a 5gal pail and use a blunt object of your choice to break it down to a consistency you're happy with. Little extra effort involved but it may be worth your while. Or bring it back to the feed store to swap for crumbles...

Last year, some of the particle sizes on the crumbles were a bit too big, so I buzzed them in my blender. I think i'll just buy a small bag of starter to hold them for a couple of weeks, and then they should be good to go with the fermented pellets. Too much hassle to return them... just an other lesson learned in not trusting the feed store employees.

Any other Maine readers using fermented feed?

Everybody ready for this next blizzard?

Good morning chicken aficionados! Happy spring winter storm!

So, a raccoon is trying to get into my hen house! Last week he got an egg outside of the house in a nest box they use. He's climbing over high fence ( well lower fence now with all this white stuff) so anyway I was thinking of buying a battery operated spot light I saw on amazon that works only at night with a sensor. I was wondering if any if you have tried a spot light to keep beasts away?
Thanks
