I used cups last year for my tomatoes. I got bulk ones on amazon for cheap. Drilled a hole in the bottoms for drainage and they worked perfectly. They were smaller than solo cups though. Had no trouble popping the seedlings out to transplant into the garden.

Help! My cute golden laced polish rooster got attacked last night by the b*#$%^d raccoon! He wasn't in the coop, he doesn't get along with the other rooster so, prefers roosting outside but he was roosted up high on the fence. I feel horrible, I know I should have put him in the coop. At first we thought he was dead but then we noticed some movement. He's a bit tore up under his wing. And his right leg is bothering him (major limping and bleeding from toes). And his beautiful tail feathers are strewn everywhere. So, I put alcohol on his wounds, then I covered the wounds with neosporin. He is drinking water but not eating, he's very lethargic and his poos are very watery. I mixed some pellets & scratch with water maybe he'll like the softer food. I fear some sort of internal injury. Is their anything else I should do for him?

P.S. The raccoon is no longer a problem :) RIP coonie.

I'm by no means a vet, or even experienced in treatment--but I'd say you've done about what you can. Aside from maybe putting him in a cage so he doesn't move. Force him to rest, and keep feeding him easy to eat foods.

Thanks. I asked my neighbor who is a vet to stop by and look at him after work. Ugh, I just hate seeing things suffer.

So much going on with everyone here! That sounds like a great hatch, LG! Congrats! Good luck with lock down, QT! Sorry to hear about the coon attack, anyasmifya. It is so hard to watch an animal suffer.

I had an EE hen torn up badly by a weasel. She would drink water but not eat at first. I made a sort of "pudding texture" mix for her of finely chopped soft boiled egg, with a little molasses, a spoon of yogurt and a pinch of brewers yeast. The weasel had partly crushed her wind pipe and she had to extend her neck to breathe at first or drink so I fed her a little at a time through a big syringe (no needle, just the syringe). I fed her about 4 times a day for 2 days, until she was strong enough to eat it from a bowl. (If you tried a treat like this, perhaps your roo might eat a little, all the extra nutrition might give him a boost.) I just put a little out at a time. She went into a huge molt, but moved steadily ahead, transitioned back to pellets over the next week or two and I was able to put her back in the coop in 2 weeks. She is a great layer and was well worth the effort.
