Our little chick named Goldie meeting our dog Sophie.

@quailtrail bloody or broody? I never leave eggs for mine to even try to set but had one try to keep me from getttingg eggs so she may have been trying to;-)

I was just in the Bangor store today. They had 3 EE in a bin that were hatched at the store. Wicked cute. I DO NOT need any more chicks, nor do I have the room for them... always fun to look. I'm so glad they didn't have any Guineas when I was there today. Be sure you get to the store early, as I bet they will sell out fast.

thats hard to walk away from! !!!

Hubby hasn't been able to put the car in the garage for the past 3 weeks because of my ongoing construction project. I'll be glad to get it finished... if only so I can start something else. There should be an extra gold star awarded to the men in our lives who tolerate the upheaval caused by livestock.

I agree LG!! DH has done a lot of the heavy lifting in my poultry operation!

If only I could get this fencing up! I did find that a local store is selling 150' of 4' high wire for 40$ which seems to be a good price.
next week while I am attending my grandfather's graveside service. I will cross my fingers for a nice long hatch so that I can come home to some little pippers saying, "wawawawawa" in their eggs at me.
Good deal on the fencing...what store?

Sorry to hear about your grandfather.

Last night was the first night I let my chicks stay out in the coop all night. I had been bringing them indoors where it's been chilly. They did wonderfully, and I tried not to get up and constantly check on them! These are my first chickens (they are about 6 weeks) and I'm utterly addicted and already have a few more breeds I'd love to add to the flock. Who knew I'd fall this hard for chickens so quickly.

Ughhh ... appears they have mites with all the "scratching" motions. Trying the natural way first. They were dust bathing today, lots of garlic, wood ash ready for tomorrow and plan on scrubbing coop Saturday. ..amd treatment for birds with garlicjuice, water, tree tea oil and lavender oil mix. Hope I'm not wasting my time? ?? Thoughts???

And I have a broody hen again. Lets see how it goes this time....

Ughh...mites!!!I Someone on the Natural thread dusted her birds 10 nights in a row w/wood ash, full coop cleanout and also used neem oil on her roosts to get rid of mites.

The 4 RIR's went to a new home tonight. Before they came, my flock got along well. My 8 new chicks are some gentle breeds. I was worried that the RIR's would not be very nice when it came time to integrate! They're going to a good home--a friend. If they don't work out at her house, they're going to her son's who has a rooster who would love some ladies!

I imagine if you cleaned her off, pasting up is not the issue, although I would keep an eye on her. As far as the breathing goes, maybe something is wrong, but it could also be nothing (sorry, I guess that isn't that helpful). I had a chick with the same issue (the heaving with each breath) and she always did this, but otherwise was healthy. She died of leg issues, but she was three years old by then.
Oh, it's helpful. I like the idea of it being nothing. She's a runty little thing, especially alongside the other Cochin, so maybe that's part of her trouble. I would think all the temperature changes during travel and settling in would have been hardest on her, since she's the smallest chick in the bunch.
