How much do they charge there? I'm thinking about using them next year for my roos instead of giving them all away like I did this year.

$3 per bird. When I start to consider what the whole process would involve if I did it myself, it seems like a bargain!

Also, you get an appointment time. There's a closer place in Albion which we used last year (same price), and you had to wait in line behind people with 50 birds. It took half a day.

there is also a place in gardiner called weston's, on the collins mill rd. they also give you an appointment and last I spoke with the owner, he was getting usda certified which means to can sell the meat you have processed there. he also cryo packs the meat.

It's really not that bad to do it yourself, honestly. We just finished doing 6 roosters (the 7th got a stay of execution on account of his RoadRunner ways... couldn't catch him...). From start (grabbing the roo) to finish we can do it in 25 to 30 minutes each (most of that time is hand plucking), although the first always takes longer to get our rhythm. Then about 5-10 minutes each to cut it up and bag it when we're done.

Now I'm getting ready to make stock with the backs.

alright, this is not chicken related but I to share- last night we worked on son's Halloween costume with a wizard type hat made of paper mache' . left if to dry overnight and this morning the dog said "it was delicious"

that sounds alot like something my dog would do lol grandson left his snacks sitting on a chair the other day went to get a dring and ended up chaseing the 6month old pup around the house trying to get his bag of chips back lol

this is a cross post from an email list I am on.

I need to trim down to get ready to leave for Arizona. I can’t keep all my birds – I can keep some (neighbor). I have a LOT of bantam silver pencil rocks – and a few bantam RI reds. Couple of Blue Rosecombs. Odds and ends.

Do you know anyone who might be interested? I am looking for good homes rather than $.

Regards,

Peter

Are any of you from Rumford Maine? Me and my family were thinking about moving there (we are from Massachusetts) and we were wondering what people did for jobs there? It seems like a beautiful town.
