What a beautiful day!!! Happy Father's Day to all!!!

Another egg pipped! !! Woohoo!!!

So my favorite chicken decided to try to be broody again. Day #3 so we have made it past the last time. The others keep going in to check on her it is soooooo cute!!! Would be great if she sticks with it as eggs in the bator are on the same time line!!!

We're looking into buying a lasar scope for one of the guns, since Rocky appears to like visiting us so much. Our bedroom window overlooks the garden and chicken yard. Jazor, if you have any recommendations along this vein, give me a shout.

A laser scope? I think you'd end up paying entirely too much for something that didn't really do what you wanted. Or you'd pay a price that felt warm and fuzzy, and you definitely wouldn't get what you need.

If you're in the market for cheap glass (shooter jargon = scope) you'd probably be well suited looking at Bushnell's Trophy series, or Legend series. It's tough to tell you which would be your best option, since I don't know any of the specifics of your situation: what caliber rifle, what is the action of the rifle, what ranges are you looking to cover/and with what type of consistency, things along those lines. I'm sure for your intended use, spending big dollars wouldn't be a good return on investment--but I'm pretty sure you can track down either of those bushnell's for the $100 range maybe slightly less. Good glass matters! Don't buy something the guy at the Generic Sporting Goods Store tells you is "the one you need", and don't opt for the cheaper one simply because it's cheaper. Or if you do, don't cry to old Jazor when you can't quite focus on that fox at 200 yards and you miss your shot

Been so busy! I've got to finish putting in my garden today and then hopefully from here on out I'm back to "normal" amounts of chores.

My run is waaaaay too big to use a net... this isn't even all of it, it keeps going to the left of the picture. If a net works for you, use it! I just haphazardly string up fishing line. Even if it just slows the hawks and eagles down, it gives my birds some extra time to scoot under or into the coop.

What a lovely run....so festive. I see what you mean. I would like to put in a run like this. How many chickens do you have in there?

I love my run. I have somewhere between 30 and 60 chickens at any given time; also turkeys.

They have completely stripped it bare - one lesson learned was not to have the run bush hogged (what a waste of money) prior to putting the fence in. No point. The run was expensive to put in, mostly because we don't have any dirt - it's all granite under about an inch or two of soil - and the fence company had to drill into the granite and concrete some pins in instead of just driving posts into dirt. Cost twice as much as it would have. But it has withstood fox and dog attacks and I'm glad I had a professional do it.

I think i see curly tails on #1 and #3. Can't tell with #2. Old eyes! Nice looking ducks. Let me know if they lay any eggs!!!

Thanks for the scope info. After assessing the situation last night, with available lighting from front and back of house (target site is at the end) there's enough light to make out the target, and if we use a red flashlight inside to line things up, we might be ok. Red neck solution... i know. He didn't come for the scratch, so i'll up the ante to marshmallows and cat food. He's trap savy. Springs the trap, takes the bait, but nobody home in the morning.

That reminds me of one night last summer I spent outside shooting rats around dusk... used a red flashlight, too, for spotting. They got wise after the first few hits but it did work.

Sounds like a fun evening.

My chicks are getting their grown up voices. Tonight, they were squabbling over some Cajun broccoli. (a bit too crispy on the grill!) One of the rose comb brown leghorns was running around with a chunk of broccoli, and honking like the horn on a clown car. These little RCBL are comical... not friendly, quite flighty, but they run around like the "Road Runner". (Wil-E-Coyotee's nemesis) I expect them to be good little egg layers.
