Maine

Help! What do I do now? There is someone in Lubec, trying to get rid of some Ameraucanas. I really want them, and she says they are true Ameraucanas. She says they are typical colors, with some having black, gray or orange muffs. I guess I don't know enough about Ameraucanas.
Anyway, if I actually do this, it would involve first, a long drive, and then I would have to quarantine them in my hoop house, where the temperatures fluctuate wildly (it is the same temperature as outdoors at night, but gets up to 60 on a sunny day).
Am I crazy to do this?
My plan for this spring was to add only a very few birds (I really need to get rid of some of the older ones, but haven't), and I was hoping to hatch just a few Ameraucanas, so this seems perfect.
Should I go for it? Or am I crazy?

I always find that the best deals are on winter chickens so if you can get so photos first- do that, you don't want to be disappointed after such a long drive.

My son (responsible 12 year old) saw D'uccles and Seramas at the Common Ground Fair & wants to have a pair to raise on his own next year.
I wondered how other Mainers who own these keep them safe in the winter months.
Do you move them indoors or heat coops?
So they lay ANY eggs?
I have a great bantam coop. While I don't believe in kids having sole responsibility for pets, if I know enough about them & like them I don't mind helping. Hamsters & Guinea pigs don't interest me, but I love chickens.

Hope all you Mainers had a great holiday.

I am posting this for a friend of mine, she has some turkeys she is trying to sell. She has a breeding trio of Slate turkeys, ( 2 hens, 1 tom) less than a year old. She also has 5 Black Spanish we believe to be all hens. She believes they are 5-6 months old. She is asking $25 each for them.

I am pleased with myself, I went to the CMBF meeting today and came home without chickens....
There was a very cute pair of Barred Rock Banties I passed up.

I think you should have bid on them anyway

I got lots of great deals. the groceries I got were valued at $15-20, I got them for the price of one jar of peanut butter which was in the box. we had alot of nice items, I even won a bag of grain.

As of now I have no place to separate anyone. Everything is in the barn together at night and so far it is enough space there is not alot of fighting going on. I need to remedy this before spring so I can isolate pairs together or if I hatch anything out they will be mongrels.
Had I had a separate space I'd probably now own a pair, LOL.
Yep, good deals to be had, and now I want to sew up some of those grain bag shopping bags...
