Had to do a snow burial the other day. My roo unexpectedly died the other day. He had an infection from frostbite so that might be why. Had to bring my lonley hen inside for the next couple days cuz of the storm.

Sorry for the loss of your roo. Will you be getting more hen friends soon? You know how chicken math works; why get just three, when six will be twice as fun!

So sorry to hear of the recent burials! Was not able to let the girls out today. With the blowing & drifting, we already had 2 feet of snow. DH has been out plowing since 4 am. However our yard was not plowed! Glad I filled up their water yesterday. Just worried about feed. I know they had some leftover feed in a bowl and 2 of the tube feeders were almost full. I have just as many gray hairs from these chickens as I do my kids

We tromped through to feed and water the crew a couple of times. We surprisingly got two eggs today. Hopefully, we can dig them out tomorrow, the path we made with the snow blower is gone.

I love my speckled sussex - great personalities but they're not good layers. I'm sure whatever you get will be fine.

I still haven't clomped out to see my chickens and turkeys in the main coop. Due to the timing of the storm and where the coop is located, I was going to wait for it to be over, but now I have to go to work. I did clomp out a few times for the ducks yesterday and this morning, they are absolutely snowed in. I couldn't even get close enough to the spigot on the house for water, so I had to bring buckets from the garage. It's going to be a hard cleanup.
