Maine

I just had to hop on for a second to share my excellent find for the day!!!!!

We headed to Marks Lawn and Garden in Bridgton this morning so I could finally get my lilac bush that I have been eyeing since last year. Its beautiful. Mark is a rather awesome guy- huge animal lover and he raises several breeds of chickens, peacocks, and emus. Turns out, he raises phoenix and had some chicks for sale!! So we grabbed 4 chicks. And even better than that it looks like we got 2 males and 2 females!!!! SO VERY EXCITED!!!! These are the first birds my husband has been interested in, so they are his first chickens:)

Klf, look into "maine's right to farm" by the maine farm bureau. I was at the livestock show and if you are selling products produced by your livestock, you might have a way around this down sizing.

A little disappointment this morning. I am pretty sure that only 2 of th 4 phoenix chicks we got are actually phoenix. They had some polish crosses there and after watching these new chickies, I am pretty sure thats what 2 of them are. There is no doubt that the other 2 are phoenix, and I would bet money they are males. But the other 2 have cheek puffs and a poof starting on the top of their heads. I know that we have some polish chicken lovers out there, but they are not my cup of tea and I really didnt want any in my flock. Going to have to call today and see what we can do to fix the situation.

How was everyone elses weekend?

I need these hens gone asap, they are eating my blueberry bushes

I will take $20 or best offer
2 russian orloff, 3 blue ameraucana(pet quality), 1 w/c choc polish, 1 buff turken, and 1 choc oegb (maybe 2 if I can find the other)
we handle the polish all the time and she is very sweet, also hold the oegb but not the others. they will come for treats and aren't flighty.

I am in Windham. I just don't want to be doing this over and over again...it's easier to let them go when they all go, you know? I am willing to do individual and will take best offer.

on another note. I also have the rest of my free range girls. 6 are ee's (some olive eggers) which all lay either blue or green. These are all a year old and were hatched from a broody last year. They will come for treats but don't want to be picked up(which I noticed from any broody reared chicks). With them I have 2 cuckoo marans(one supposed to be golden cuckoo), one tailed/clean faced araucana hen, and two clean faced silver ameraucana hens(when they were still more of a project, they lay light blue eggs) all the ones that aren't the ee/oe are 2-3 years old.

cheap, cheap, cheap!

I just need to get rid of these asap and wanted to put them here before I do craigslist.

Well, I may be interested in your PQ Ameraucanas - I like colorful dozens.
If you get takers for the lot, not worries. If not, I will gladly coordinate p/u when others are coming so it isn't a giant P.I.T.A. for you.
Think on it, and let me know if you decide we can work something out.
Your prices sound reasonable.
How old are the Ameraucana?

w/c chocolate polish? What's the w/c?

Your/my birds are all still alive and most are content. The Orloff never seems very happy with me but she comes near and lets me hold her without much fuss. Today she was making a tapping sound. Maybe she's a complainer or doesn't like rain? LOVE her color and she's bigger than I expected.

These are very nice birds. I hope more people will help so you can convince the town to relax. Responsible breeders/farmers are important to support. I'm not sure what to DO with them all but... I LIKE them!

W/c is white crested....poor girl was called friar tuck forever because she would get picked on. She is easy to xatch, probably because she can't see :p , doesn't fuss either....
