Update on my puking chicken. She has stopped I used a combination of advice given to me and threads I've read. Crumbles soaked in apple cider vinegar, water, and olive oil combo with probiotic yogurt for three days- just in case anyone has this problem. I also hand puked her a few times and massaged the crop. Her feather are no longer fluffed up and is being more social. Plus, I don't see white spit up around her neck anymore. yesssssssss
pictures of my 5 week olds with momma hen. looks like 2 roos and a pullet. they are eggs hatched from my flock. white leghorn /white rock cross/ rhode island red/ red sexlink.
Hope she comes home again.
I lost one of my girls yesterday, too. She was egg bound, and so I brought her in & stayed up with her all night bathing & massaging.
I thought we got it, and she was up & out of the cat carrier I set up in the breezeway when I got up in the morning. She was eating the mash and there was what seemed to be a shell-less egg in the carrier.
She ran right out & started scratching in her favorite spot.
I haven't seen her since. Maybe I should have made her stay in the infirmary longer. But, she seemed so good. All her feathers back to normal, and walking upright.
I keep searching, but I fear the worst. She was always a little off. I have taken to calling her "Dummy".
She will be missed.
Blueseal, that is the cutest little chicken picture I have ever seen.
So sorry about your forced down-sizing klf73! That would be really hard.
And sorry to hear about your missing hen, Hoppy and mkitchengirl. I hope they both turn up. Is your ankle better, Hoppy?
Blueseal, I really enjoy seeing the photos of other people's flocks. We have ours in an open fenced-in area also. I'd like to get some kind of cheap fencing (snow fence?). I want to set up a circular area with my better fence in particular spots away from the run, and then use snow fence (or something) to make a path from the run to the area where I want them to graze. Mine aren't the just-pick-them-up and move them type. I read that if you put them in your asparagus patch for 5 days after the last harvest, they will take care of all the asparagus beetles without doing much other damage. I'd like to try this as an experiment.
