Polly,
eggs under broody along with a few lav/lavs from our hen. I give her a little food in her box everyday since she doesn't want to come out. A little meat as a treat yesterday too. She eats it right up quick. I sortof feel bad for her. Is there anything else really good to give her??

She will come out when she is ready, don't worry, she has to drink and poop. You will think you have had a St. Bernard in your yard when she does poop. I would give her all the treats you give the rest of the birds. Once it warms up more she will come off the nest more. Don't fret, she knows more about hatching those chicks then we do.

One of my broody hens hatched out 3 chicks on Sat. She is a first time momma and not even a year old yet.

I take mine off the nest every few days so they eat and poo, they usually are not off for long, but they need to even for just a little while. eggs will be fine.

Humidity is good, anywhere around 35-45% for incubation then bump to 55-65% for hatching at day 18. I do dry incubation and then add humidity for hatching. Works out good for me.
My first batch was silkies, had 10 eggs and 7 hatched the others were shrink wrapped I had trouble the last 3 days keeping humidity up kept dropping down on me to the 40's- 50's this was my first time hatching eggs, so with the marans think I will need to put a sponge or something in the water trough to keep the moisture higher, I didn't open it either, use a straw thru vent to add water. I have the Brinsea octagon eco 20. not much space under the tray. I was using paper towels with hatching silkie but it kept drying on me.

ok, so here is the thing. We got a notice from the town saying we could only have 2 chickens. We also have property on the other side of the road which dh looked up and it is zoned for 25 birds. we are fighting this but need to get to the 25 number so we have a leg to stand on. so here it goes....

I have 2 pairs of chocolate bantam orps, from Jean(pips&peeps) who got her birds from Marc Sacres (sp?). These are still in my house to my husbands dismay but they have been going out to our backyard(also to my husbands dismay since we got the chickens out of that area 3 years ago

). One pair is a month older than the other and I will have to check but I think the older ones are almost 6 months old and the pullet looks like she will be laying soon. I am selling these for $200 pair (I paid more). I also have a black pullet that is from HenTymes(shipped eggs) that is fully feathered and almost 2 months old that I was going to use with these but she can go with the buyer if wanted, if not she can stay with my oegb hens since she is so sweet.

ALSO,
I have a jubilee orp roo, cream legbar roo, breda roo, blue isbar roo....these were my secondary roos but will not have room for them for compliance. if you come get them in windham they are free, if I have to drive anywhere I need gas compensation....

I have some chicks that came from Nava, they are blrNN project birds and blrw. I am only keeping 3 or 4 of these and there are probably 10 chicks. I am only keeping one of the blrw and I know there are some pullets in the other 5(?) but all must go at the same time. I would like $20 for this lot of chicks if picked up in Windham (again, paid more) and these are fully feathered but still have heat.(blrnn possibly taken)

I have 4 houdan chicks(still fuzzy), supposed to be pullets (I am keeping 2 of the 6) and 1 silver laced polish and would like $10 if picked up in Windham for all.spoken for

I have 7 cream legbar cockeral chicks, all fuzzy, free spoken for

I have some breda x cream legbar chicks (5?) that are around a month old, free spoken for

I have a trio of oegb from Ron Smith(I think, will have to see if I have the name right). This is an opal roo over bbr opal split hens. They produced black, bbr, opal chicks last year. The rooster is dubbed and beautiful, girls are very sweet. $20 for trio

I also have a lavender rumpless clean faced araucana hen that I hatched last year from Hinkjc and I have a rooster that I hatched from Harry(Shaffer) that is lav split, rumpless, triple tufted. This is one of the harder ones to part with since he has been here 2 years. I just don't have room for projects at this time. He has never had a girl and hasn't been introduced to this girl yet.

DUCKS
I have 6 chocolate runners, got them last year from Metzer Farms, 5 ducks and one drake. $50 obo for all
also, 5 black cayuga from same place, 4 ducks and one drake, one of the ducks injured her foot getting out of the house they were in and limps. I think the boys are aggravating it so when she is alone with just the one drake I think she will do better. $30 for all
lastly I have some ideal runners, think there are 5 of them. I think there are 2 drakes and 3 ducks but will have to check. There is also a mixed color runner drake that is blue and white that is with these guys., these are free if someone takes all 6 of these and picks up in Windham

there will be more, just need to downsize quickly to reassess. any reasonable offer will be considered.

forgot- I have a splash ameraucana roo(ramey) that has a gold lakenvelder hen, russian orloff hen and mille fluer d'anver with him. I was going to put my 6 Smith black ameraucana hens with him. I also have 2 splash hens and a black cree hen that I can sell with them. All these for $75 spoken for

also, I have a pen that has 2 russian orloff hens, 2 chocolate(dun) oegb, 3 blue ameraucana(didnt' put these with my other ameraucana because I didn't like the eggs color). these all got here in summer '10, best offer

dh thought he knew of a farmer that would take this lot but can't find his number so I am listing it here before craigslist
I have a blue wheaten ameraucana roo that has a flock of girls including 2 blue wheaten hens, 2 cuckoo marans, a few olive eggers, and just random layers, they range from just under a year to 4 years old. best offer, would like the whole lot to go together (at least the hens, will count them when they go in tonight)

Hello Folks,

Would love to get your input on whether or not it is ok to set pullet eggs in the bator. I have a sizzle and a "cochin" bantam (I dont think she is really a cochin. if she is she is the worst cochin I have ever seen) and my roo is a HUGE cochin. I love the look of all of these birds and their personalities are FANTASTIC! Anyway, I always assumed because of the size difference there would be no chance of fertile eggs from the little ones. But when I started cracking them open I noticed that almost all of them were in fact fertile. I figured I was mistaken and it was a newbie error. But while I was in the chicken yard yesterday....well, lets just say little sizzle and giant roo needed some Barry White music in the background. I reall really would love to see what these 2 would produce for offspring. My sizzle has only been laying for a couple of months though, so not sure if it a good idea or not to set them.

What do you all think?

my silkies/ sizzle pullet eggs are not any smaller then the adult eggs. normally I would not set pullet eggs that are small but since these probably are almost normal size, i 'd go for it.

and KLF, you are killing me- so many beautiful birds!

well, from my recent experience trying to hatch my jubilee orp eggs, almost ALL of the chicks died after pipping the air cell, they just didn't have the room to move to hatch(their bodies took up the whole air cell), so I would be inclined to wait for egg size to get a little bigger
