I've never had one with sour crop, Mckenney, but if you confirm that diagnosis, there is a thread about curing sour crop with Monistat.

I've been so frustrated watching the hatch going on in a neighboring classroom. The humidity in the incubator is 88%. Fifteen chicks have hatched, but none have fluffed up, and the whole operation is giving off a foul odor. The guy came and put a chick feeder and water in the incubator (it is a large homemade one), and I'm afraid the feed will mold with all that water dripping on it.
I told the teacher to call the guy and tell him to come do something. I would bring in a heat lamp myself and set the chicks in a box to dry off, but they are not mine, and I'm trying not to interfere (other than by insisting the teacher call this guy). His plan was to come pick them up on Friday, but I think they will all be dead by then. :(

No new chicken stories but I do have a new family addition. A rescue about 8 months old. After only one week she has learned her name, Serina. She knows sit, walks well in a leash and is learning to sit and wait when she gets her food. She is respectful of the other dogs, cats, horses and goats. Interested in the free ranging Muscovies but a quick 'Leave it' is working when she gets too curious. She has to be one of the friendliest dogs I have ever owned. She is happiest when she is giving kisses and/or snuggling on the couch and bed.

Aww she is soo sweet

What a face! Congrats Widget

ok couple things real quick here. 1st. topic is: wife thinks she has some allergy to baby chicks. Not adult chicks, just baby chicks. I've read about chicken allergies, the symptoms are just like any other allergy. I don't think it's chicken allergies, I think it's just pain old allergies. Itchy dry eyes, sore throat. Any suggestions would help.
2nd topic. I have 6 marans chicks, that are about 2 weeks old. After numerous no shows from people on CL who just have to have them I need to get rid of them. These were eggs I got off ebay, the colors listed were blue, black, blue splash, black splash, copper and birchon. I have them listed at $6.00 each (straight run) or $32.00 for the lot of them. You think my price is too high? Anyone interested in these chicks?

your price is in the right area, did you save the egg shells, people like to see what egg color they came out of.
baby chicks produce alot more dust then adult chickens because they are getting new feathers at such a fast rate. get an air purifier and put it in the room with the chicks, if they are in the house. if not, put it in your house and have your wife stay away from tending the chicks until they are older.

nope didn't save the egg shells, noone has asked about that. I did a complete cleaning of the brooder this morning. I bleached the tub we have them in and rinsed it several times with hot water. No funny smell or bleach smell coming from that now. I made a tray to keep the water out of the shavings and hopefully keep that mess under control. What about cleaning our incubators? We have 2 LGs and I've been cleaning them with mild dish soap, yet they have this funky smell to them, you can't smell it unless you open the bator. Thanks for the quick answer Hoppy!

I clean by bators out with a diluted bleach solution then rinse a few times. During the summer I let it sit in the sun after cleaning...no odor...

close them up with a dish of baking soda inside them, that should take care of any odors.

I am about to overload everyone with pictures now, I appologize in advance. These are our most recent hatches. WIth the exception of a few of these chicks, they are mostly crosses from our barred rock hens and cochin roo. There is one of Hoppys chicks in there, though I am not sure if it is an orp or a wyandotte. There is also one of my aunts barnyard mixe- she thinks her roo is an americauna (I know, I know I butchered the spelling!) though if anything I think he is probably an EE and her hens could be just about anything! Then I have 2 buff orps and 2 JGs that are hatchery birds. Anyway, without further ado, here are my babies:

This one is my fave because of its coloring. Its face is so distinct from the rest of its body!

This is the chick from Hoppy. Hoppy- any idea what you think this one might be?

They really seem to like McKenzie
