my turkey probably thought the world was ending. his tractor flipped over in the wind but he got out safely. he is now corralled in the chicken run with the flock. i don't want them blown away in this wind today so they are staying penned.

Finally one of the chickens decided she was old enough to lay an egg. It was a bit muddy since she laid it out in the run but after a quick rinse I had a nice brown small egg.

Now if the other pullets will just follow suit.

funny that the 3 pullets I took to the show all just started laying since we came home. they must have thought better lay or she'll put us in those tiny cages again.

Yay!

I've still just got the one laying..I think. She's being doing about an egg a day. I wish everyone else would get the point!!

LOL Maybe we can start a new "list" for animal stud services.

BF and I were talking about this. We were talking about being 'chicken pimps' though and how all these roosters need somewhere to go and that we would have a Cluck Truck to transport, a small fee and 'insurance' which states that the flock they go to is clean and that the cock would be returned to us after two weeks. It would be a real noisy farm here if we had a ton of boys. I understand that you can devoice them.... but that sounds dangerous to me. He wanted to call it Cluckindales.

On an unrelated note; my son now has a chicken trained to come to him when he pats his legs like you would for a dog. It is ridiculous. I think this was rather easy given that it tries to follow me in the house and is one of the main players of chicken soccer when I go out to feed them, but it is hilarious to watch him 'call' this chicken and have it leave the flock to go see him. He wants to call it Fido.

Widget... I like the sign idea too. Need a board and stake? Just leave off the "GD" part so as not to offend.

Also, just to share, my GSD loves to watch the Favorell babies we have inside through the screen. She will sit there completely attentive for long periods. I told BF that she was stuck inside all day so what else was there to do but put on a chick flick.

so not long after I posted complaining about the lack of egg laying happening over here- I went out to find 3 (THREE!) eggs in the coop! It's about time! What makes it even more exciting is that one was from one of the EEs.

The blue egg is a little more colorful than the picture shows. EXCITING!

nice, next you have to tell me if the new rooster has figured out his "job"

Hoppy- I'm still not so sure he's got it figured out! He's seeming a little more interested in the girls, but he still runs whenever the 2 biggest girls come around! No crowing yet. He did help chase a squirrel away today though! Other than that, he is really sweet- he is more willing to be picked up than any of the girls....and He likes to follow my husband.
