And widget, are you talking a rain or snow Nor'easter? I am not ready...
This was on WGME's site. It is only a slight possibility but it would be mostly rain and wind with a bit of snow mixed in. WCSH is saying possible rain/snow Wednesday night but nothing serious. I vote for WCSH's forcast.

I'm not ready either. My de-icing job starts on the regular schedule this weekend. It was one thing to be called in a couple weeks ago but now it is scheduled. Winter is coming my friends.

Just saw that there is a possible Nor'easter headed this way next week.

Why can't we have at least a month of no nasty weather so things can dry up around here? And if it does happen that means yet another round of power outages. Anyone want to donate to my generator fund?

I'll donate but only if you put up that sign about the mud.

Hopefully now that we've settled into our school schedule I can keep up and participate a bit more.

We just ordered a heated dog bowl for the coop, I'm looking forward to not chipping ice and refilling water in the morning before work (DH got evening duty).

I also forgot how much I enjoy having a nice rooster around. We let the girls out of the coop today and the younger ladies immediately went to check out our new rooster in his bachelors pad. He started talking quietly to them right away and kept picking up bits of clover in his enclosure and putting it on the board the chicken wire is attached to for his new ladies. They didn't seem phased by him, even our dominant hen checked him out and then went back to doing her thing -- when we introduced the new ladies to her she was not a happy camper even when they were in a separate pen. So I am hoping in the next week or so we can try letting him out with them and hoping they eventually let him in their coop so he'll be warmer (and less lonely). He is such a nice guy I am so glad we got him.

At this rate I just might. Worked on the fence today and moved the round pen panels as much as I could to give the horses a bit more dry area. By tomorrow that area will be a bit muddy too. The main muddy area has about 4-6 inches of very wet mud that squishes nicely. Since I been off work since Monday afternoon I've been able to let the horses out into the full paddock for several hours during the day. Only one escape. For $600 I could get someone to dig the rest of the post holes I need to finish replacing the entire fence but I'm about $599 too short.

Oh my, what a long few days! I hope everyone here made it through the storm ok?

We had a tree come down onto our van, pulling down power lines with it. Loads of fun, let me tell you. Especially with the tree right up against the front door, power lines on the vehicle, and no working key to our back door... Ay yi yi!! Kids were excited to see the fire department at least? If it hadn't been for that darned tree, we wouldn't have lost power at all. But nevertheless we were without from Monday evening to Wednesday afternoon. Fair Point FINALLY got the phone line back up this morning, so hooray for no more wires in the yard!

I'm starting to wonder about my roosters... They are both "of age", I believe. Pepper I got from Krista in August, and Spartacus I got back in June. But still... Neither of them crow, and I swear they spend more time with each other than they do with any of the hens! What gives?!?

Finally had a visit from the state. One a vet and one just an agent. Results: Shelter is okay. Mud is mud and there isn't much I can do about it. The horses do have dry areas so that part is fine. Two of the three look great. The third is thin. Went over vet results and farrier results. Told them everything that I have been doing. End result. They feel that I am on the right track and am doing everything I can. Suggested that I try and offer the thin one free choice hay even if it means he can't get to the shelter during the day. And to follow up with my vet in a month if I don't see a difference. Bottom line: I'm not breaking any laws and am doing what I can for the animals.

How scary! Glad everything is ok.

if you separate them from the hens for a few days and then put them back, you might see them being more romantic. I'd just give them time and bear in mind, there are gay animals, more likely they have not figured it out in your presence. .

I have a rooster that if someone is mating one of "his" black hens, he'll grab that one, but he doesn't try it himself in front of me- who knows what they do when I'm not around (I have fertile eggs, so someone is doing it)

Husband brought home 4 hens from a lady he works with today. She was downsizing and giving these 4 layers away. Boy, are they in rough shape. They were clearly the bottom of the pecking order and all 4 have at least partially bald heads and rumps. A couple of them have open wounds. Tips/advice on getting these lovelies back into shape?

Had our own chicken shenanigans here today to. The 4 new gals arrived early this am and the hubs is planning on "taking care" of our aggressive roo along with 3 other juveniles we were going to grow out to eat in the spring . My grandparents were asking if we have any smaller birds for their freezer. They are older and its just the 2 of them so they never buy a whole chicken anymore because its too much for them to eat. So the juvies are going to them and going earlier than we planned...Anyway, all this meant there was some chickens that needed to be moved around the place to different areas- some to be separated while everyone gets to know each other, some to be kept from food so they will be ready for butcher tomorrow etc etc. Of course it didnt work out as we had planned and before we knew it there were chickens and people running all over the yard. Oh if the neighbors could have seen us!
