Maine

IF anyone is interested I have 25-30 Pullets 4-8 months old. Buff orpingtons, Australorps, white rocks, Easter eggers, and Production reds. $10 a piece. PM me if interested. Thanks

Oh man I have eggs coming out of my ears all of a sudden! The extra light has seemed to help a lot. Within 2 weeks of having it on I am now getting about 6 eggs a day out of my 7 girls and I was not even expecting the two youngest to start laying for another few weeks! I am also getting HUUUUUGE eggs from one of my orps. I think they may have been hiding their eggs for a while there, since I put a golf ball into one of the nests and then eggs began to multiply.

I already have two regular customers who want a dozen eggs a week :D

now I am busy browsing the McMurray catalog for 25 new chicks for next spring :D
I suppose I should get to work on planning the new coop first though, before I end up with 25 pullets with no place to call home living in my basement!

my silkies are laying like crazy too, except for the 2 that I want to be laying, they'd rather be sitting.

I've got NOBODY laying right now! What little brats! Really need to get light out to the coop, just need to get the $100 for an extension cord first. *sigh*

i'd be looking for a less expensive extension cord ,$100 sounds too high.

Me too! I got 2 eggs today, which is about average for my 42 hens. Everyone's molting! I won't give them extra light, but I've got to get my heavy duty extension cord run for the heated water base. I'm getting tired of lugging water and it's only November.

Except my ducks. I've got a female pekin that lays an egg a day religiously. I went back and counted on my calendar, of the last 106 days, I've goten 105 duck eggs. I have records back further, but that was as far as I was willing to count. Now if only I liked duck eggs cooked and not in a baked dessert.

Why do you need such a heavy duty one? The 14 or 16 gauge works just fine for me......

It's for long term outdoor use and connected to an outlet in the kids bedroom, I don't feel comfortable using something lighter weight. 14ga MAYBE, but definitely not 16ga. My electrician step-father said I should stick with 10ga, but that is WAY out of the budget. Eventually we will be getting permanent wiring done, but we can't do that until the septic is 110% again.
