:hu  wants to see what's going on??
so they new rooster is fitting in, doing all his rooster things....and well, I have one hen, my buff orp Peaches...who whenever he hops on top of any of the other ladies, goes and sticks her face right in their faces??? I think this is rather rude, and would like to know what is up what that?!

Mine do that all the time, except they don't just stick their face there, they usually peck the hen on the head. I think it is a pecking order thing. They see the hen being mated can't fight back, so this is their big chance to show them up.
In my flock with two roosters, the subordinate one will run over while the head roo is mating and peck at the hen or the head roo.

I am guessing its more to do with biological competition. Usually a dominant cock will get upset and involved if the sub mates with one of the flock. I am assuming that this one hen is the dominant one. I just can't believe she is a voyeur or grapevine grower.

Sorry for the non-chicken related posts lately but it is nice to have a place to come and post about life issues.

Anyway I just got back from my interview at Maine Med. Odd having an interview at 5 pm but I'm not complaining. Now the job isn't glamorous (environmental maintenance aka 'janitor') but it would be full-time with benefits. All I had to do today was show up, read the description of what one has to be able to do, sign a form saying that I read the description and answer 6 questions on a computer to prove I can use a computer. Then it was about 10-15 minutes talking to the interviewer to set up a time to meet with the supervisor on the shift I am interested in. That interview is for 11 am this Thursday.

What made things interesting was that wife of the interviewer is in the HR department at the company I work for at the airport. So he already knew a bit about me. I recognized the last name but didn't put two and two together. Goes to show how small the world really is.

After the interview I decided I was actually hungry. I admit I haven't really been eating much the past few days. Nothing like trying to stave off a panic attack or two when one starts to think about a lack of income. What did I have? Well I thought of all of you who eat nice and healthy and thought about trying it out. Then I decided that I really really really wanted a cheeseburger. So I went to McDonald's and got the two cheeseburger, soda and fry value meal. And yes I went with the large. While I did eat the two burgers and drink the soda I at least shared the fries with the two dogs who were with me. Funny thing is I don't really like McDonald's ( I prefer Wendy's spicy chicken and chili) but this meal really hit the spot.

sadly I lost my companion of 29 yr today. my african grey passed away very unexpectly. deep breath in, deep breath out. I'm going to really miss her "I love you's" she was just so sweet, always.

I'm so sorry. My first grey 'Julian' passed away unexpectedly when he was 14. I had had him since he was 7 weeks old and still hand-feeding. He had a large vocabulary and was able to mimic the voices of both my parents. Kind of eerie since they had passed away a few years before he did. Now I have another grey 'Apollo' who has been with me for almost five years. They are so intelligent that is is downright scary sometimes.
