Maine

I am but I am trying to figure out how to do it. last yr it wasn't an issue until byc changed that we can no longer edit the first page of thread( or edit any pages after a certain amount of time)
so that brings up the issue of trying to keep the current swaps listed on the first page and updated rather then digging through who know how many pages to find out what going on this weekend.
if anyone has a suggestion, I'd gladly welcome it.
byc would like us to have a main page and then click to a link of page that can be modified- sort of like what we have when we have our own"about me" page.
personally, I hate to go that one more click, but I might have no other option.

Hey Hoppy, are you going to post a new 2013 swap thread in "Chickenstocks etc" ????

With hatching started, it would be nice to post what we'll have to sell there?

I have one americauna that I bought at the last swap that "was laying every day" she's not laid for me at all. she might be one of those "free for the taking" or stew pot chickens once spring arrives. I plan to have many replacements for her.
I've had a couple chickens start laying again after taking much of the winter off, but nothing from the Ameraucanas. I keep hoping they will start up just in time to throw some of their eggs in with my shipped eggs that I'll be setting around Valentine's Day, but more likely, I'll be doing a separate hatch later in the spring.

Anyone got any tips for dealing with a not-bad-yet lice infestation in the winter? Going to be pulling all the straw & hay deep bedding out of the coop tomorrow, cleaning and replacing with pine shavings. Set out a cat litter pan full of sand, DE, and barn lime to make sure they're getting their baths (there's an always-dry spot in the goat pen they use, but it never hurts to have an extra). Texted the husband to drop by the Rockland WalMart and pick up two cans of Sevin dust if he can find it, which I hoped not to have to use but I just can't see a way to bathe 30+ chickens at this time of year without either letting them ALL spend the night in the house (and both our bathrooms are too small for that) or ending up with a coop full of hen-sicles.

I'd like to deal with this ASAP, as the inspection today was to make sure everyone is healthy enough for me to sell my last six not-Faverolles. Their coop collapsed in the snow, and SOMEONE in that flock is "grooming" the Faverolles' beards right off now that they're all living together, which is not coo; (the coop isn't crowded, apparently it just happens that way sometimes...."hey, you've got a thing on your face. let me help you out with that..."). Now that the Favs are laying, I don't really want/need the others, and the Wyandotte has turned into H.B.I.C. now that the big NH Red mix rooster is gone.

Anyone want six different purebred layers? (once the lice problem is over, obviously). They're one of each: red sexlink, buff orpington, black orpington, white orpington (I think, not 100% sure), barred rock (3 years old and still a champ layer, friendly too), and silver-laced wyandotte. The sexlink and the wyandotte are for sure laying daily, the rest of the eggs are in the color/size range of my Faverolles so I can't be totally certain, but they were laying well before their coop fell down and they had to bunk in with the little birds....

Even though I've read that Ivermectin pour-on does not kill lice (only mites), I swear mine disappeared after I used it. I did simultaneously put permethrin dust, ash, and DE in their dust box and cleaned the coop, so maybe that was a help too.
I haven't checked mine recently, but they are not showing the signs like before (hyperactive preening and scratching).

I actually have both of those in the incubator right now but I had buy them.
check out the 24 hour auction

you never know what you will find there.

Mustard tiger, this was an instant, drop the video games thing. normally he has to earn time to play video games, but he has not even asked since the duckling hatched. and yes, there are more due to hatch but not for a week and I set more last night.

She was sitting on 6 eggs from MaineChick's hens. So far we've only seen these 3. Hoping there'll be 3 more soon!
