Oh! Such adorable chicks. Really hope I can ge a hatch from one of my bantam Wyndottes this Spring (they have been taking turns going broody all Winter, hope they do it this Spring.) Snow petals has me on her list for Hedmora and Basque eggs this Spring, Isbars and a couple of smooth feather Sizzles or Slickies are on my want list, too.

Would like a few Guinea foul to keep the bugs down. Think they could free range but they would need to come in at night (esp come Winter). i wonder, if I hatched a few eggs out with chickens under a broody, would she train them to identify with the flock and come in at night?

The girls were happy to get out Sunday and today (before the snow started again!) Got the idea from someone on this list to bag the shavings I cleaned out of their coop, and save them in the barn, then put them down on the shoveled paths. Works like a charm, (the divas have taken an oath that snow shall never touch their feet!)

My dominant hen, Dot the Silber Spangled Hamberg, has been having loose stools for about 3 weeks. She seens fine otherwise, eating well, bright and active, laying daily, in fact , bossing the others around as usual. She is petite (smallest of the flock, other than the two bantams) but has been holding her weight, is heavy to lift for her size. She gets first dibs of all the treats, but eats the same food as all the others. Anyone have any suggestions?

Nell

My newest chicks hatched on the 3rd. 5 Heritage Delawares, 1 Icelandic and 1 Buckeye. Delawares are for sale.

We still have hatchers coming along this morning. 14 in the brooder this morning, hopefully will add a few more today!

My husband showed met he plans he has drawn up for my new coop...I was thinking I was going to be hard pressed to get him to give me another 4x6 coop. His plans are for an 8x12 coop with additional area for brooding and storage!! I was SHOCKED!!! He even made sure to add an "Anna Door" so I can go in and visit, HAHA! So, not only does this meana brand new coop with room for more chickies, it means I have the current coop empty and available for.....OH GOODNESS!!! Does he realize what he has done? Now if only I could figure out a way to get alpacas to cluck, I might be able to sneak them in

Good news for me! I (FINALLY) have my first Orloff eggs of this year. I am dying to hatch them but of course I have to work on the incubator that SO made for me first. I got some very sad news this morning before the egg helped me get my spirits up again. A really nice woman in BYC lost her whole barn and all her animals including very rare breeds and her GSD to a fire! I suggested that folks chip in and help her reacquire her stock. I guess one of her friends in FB is going to post a means for people to give money but I feel so sad for her.

Anna, if you get an alpaca I am visiting more often :)

You know what they say, "give them an inch and they'll take a mile!" So wonderful that he's going to build you a nice large coop - must be a nice guy!
