I have a couple of these set up. This one is in my hatcher in order to keep the humidity up. it rests in onr of the channels in the bottom. The one I have set for my incubators I just lide the tubing into one of the holes on top and manuver it to one of the channels. It only takes a couple of squirts to raise the humidity. I use room temp water.
I just finished a hatch and thought I would show my set up before cleaning the hatcher for the next batch

It looks like you are in the medical profession. What a nice set up. I'm sure we all know someone with access to IV equipment who could provide an old empty saline bag and tubing.

Ash, I got my bees reserved for AFTER I get back from Utah so you're off the hook. Unless you want to help, of course. I can always use help.
I don't mind helping at all. I could learn something from it too. And I really do love bees.
I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who goes sticking my finger where it doesn't belong when I'm waiting for seeds to sprout. How often do you find yourself staring intently into a little pot of soil, counting the little sprouts to see if there are any more than there were the last eight times you checked that day???
Me three. I am also notorious for peaking under broody butts.

No I am not in medical field. These actually are for farm animals like cows, or whatever else. They are used to get meds into them. I just happened to come across some at a yard sale last year and bought a couple figuring I would someday find a use for them

IVs are prescription only... HOWEVER you can absolutely get an enema bag at your local drug store, which comes with the bag and tubing for administration and would do the same thing.

Ash, mark your calendar for May 16.

if you go to Jeffers livestock you can buy an IV set that would fit over a soda bottle and basicaly do the same thing as what I am using. all you would need to do is fold the hose to stop the awater from dripping. It is only $1.35. I have used these to administer electro lites to my race horses when i had them. This will work.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I am this.close to convincing the husband to start with chicks (we've always started with older birds) this go around. I have some good idea about fencing and housing for the backyard.

However, there is still a lot of snow on the ground, and I'd have to snowshoe out to where the chickens will go. But, I have him planning on how we are going to keep chicks in the basement till they are old enough to go outside.

And I went to Ames and got their April chick order form.

Is it hot in here? I've got spring fever!!!

chicken swaps are a sure sign of spring!!! and the first one is at the end of this month!!

Good luck, jerseychix! I kept mine in our basement for quite a while, last year. It was my first time with chicks and I had to convince my husband, too (he's a "city boy"), but now, he worries about them almost more than I do. And he does love those FRESH Sunday morning omelets!
