Maine

Dowgirl , I am in the same boat as you...We have 3 "americanas" from Paris Farmers union, and they are awesome, super sweet, look like americanas...BUT don't lay blue eggs!! They all lay a light tan to pinkish egg. I've got one that lays a blue egg, but I'd sure like to have more!
I can hatch some EE's that will either lay a blue or green egg for you, if you want.

I attempted to get a few chick photos today. I am bad at this. I put them in a little box, so they couldn't get away, but the shots are really too close!
These are the 2 blue Marans:

Wheaten Marans (there are 3, but not all in the photo):

Cuckoo Marans and Barnvelder:

I wonder what these are... maybe olive eggers:

Both Ameraucanas? "Crusty", the one I extracted from the egg is fluffing up! (he's on the left)

Group shot. Crusty is by the plant pot, and the brighter yellow one near him is the other assisted hatcher.

I love having chicks in the house! So much fun.

Pretty chicks, Bucka!!

Welcome LoveMyChicks03

heading to bed, hands hurt too much to keep typing.

Hi Hoppy, Been there. I know a rice bag made my hands & wrist feel better. Or a wet towel in the microwave for 30 seconds then wrap in a dry towel to place on skin. Hope your hands feel better soon!

quote name="dowgirl71" url="/t/1370/maine/7130#post_10668104"]Thanks for telling me, but that's OK.  My boys just want the ones that lay the colored eggs.  I'm just doing this for fun and to have fresh eggs.:)

From what I've read, true Aracaunas eggs wil not only be blue on the outside but blue inside as well.. You will be able to tell from that particular characteristic! How cool is that?!? My sister in law got her Aracaunas from blue seal and her eggs are blue inside and out! We'll just have to wait until they lay us an egg!

Hey all. Still looking for olive eggers and/ or black copper marins. I am not exactly set up for chicks yet but I guess I could figure it out in a pinch. I would prefer older pullets. But at this point beggers can't be choosers. Would love a black Marin roo. Anyone have anything they may be willing to part with please please please lemme know!! I live just outside of Lewiston. Thanks everyone!!

Hi, I was just on the FB page for the Bangor Chicken Swap and Muddy Hoof Farm was talking about those breeds you want.  I don't know much about that place, but it may be a start for you, anyway.  Good luck!:)

I have Ameraucunas, Easter Eggers and Olive Eggers, and most of the eggshells are blue inside. I have a couple olive eggers that lay green egg with brown spots, and the inside of the eggshell is blue ;) It's like something from Dr.Seuss!
I would find out what hatchery they order through because some sell 'Rainbow Layers' or 'Easter Egg Chickens' and it is luck of the draw wether you will even get one that lays blue eggs, that would be a real bummer. Check to make sure whatever they are called, that it says they are bred to lay only blue eggs. I have had hatchery 'Araucunas' lay nicer blue than Purebred Ameraucunas. And, a true Araucuna is a very different looking bird than any other, they dont have tails. Some hatcheries have them, they are more rare and expensive than EE's and AM's.

I just got eggs from Muddy Hoof Farm, they were very nice, priced reasonably, and packed really really well. The site wont let me do pics right now for some reason, but I will add one later if I can.

Welcome all. Chambertin is usually on Houdan thread. He got offered a pretty good job but not here.

I just learned about miniature cattle! Anyone else ever seen these amazingly cute animals. They are a serious "OMG." Forget goats for me! I want mini cattle. (of course SO is totally leering at me)

I am in receipt of a Sebastopol egg and I am going to put it under my broody duck. She only has four eggs and I have no room in my bator right now so.... we'll give it a try. She's been setting for a few days so I am a little nervous, but part of me figures if I have to steal the babies out so she broods the goose the last couple days for me I will and then she can have them all back. It worked with chickens. If it fails... well, it was one free egg, right?

For those who show: is there a way to rent show cages so you don't have to spend gads of money and then store them? Esp if you are like me and want to try it out the investment is daunting.
