Maine

it probably would not be close enough since they need to be 8 weeks, not 6 weeks.

good catch. I assumed the rule was 6 weeks. I wonder if one can combine different sellers to make a group of six. Lets say I have 3 - 5 week old mixes and you have 3 6 week silkies we will say. Can we sell them together to someone? I understand why the rule is in place, welfare of the chicks. I think a lot of good judgment goes a long way but it is obvious that we must follow and comply with any laws or rules to keep everyone happy. Including the birds.

it was explained that the 6 chick rule was to prevent impulse buys of 1-2 chicks that would be discarded a few days later when they were no longer cute and if a buyer was serious enough to buy 6, they had to think harder about getting 6. I've never understood why if buying like from a swap that you had to buy 6, maybe its so the buyer doesn't say I'm buying 2 from you and 4 from someone else and then hops in the car and leaves with only buying 2.

Weird day today.

The good news was that the lavender hen that is inside with the sour crop seems to be improving. She is passing some solid stuff, even though she has only had yogurt and olive oil, and her crop has deflated. She doesn't have much of an appetite yet, but I am only offering her the yogurt and scrambled egg right now. Even though she is out of commission, I've managed to gather 3 lavender eggs from the other 2 hens for my hatch.

The bad news, the lavender rooster dropped dead today. He was fine this morning, and cooped up inside today. DH said it looked like he had fallen off the roost or something. Very strange. I'm going to try and hatch my 3 eggs and any others I get in the next few days.

So sorry to hear about your roo. glad the hen is doing better. The little Dom that I've been treating is no longer getting treated after today. I had a hard time catching her this morning, and when I fed her, she only took a little bit. I'm guessing that she's eating enough that the hand fed goodies aren't as appealing.

So does this rule exclude naked necks and the like since they are not cute to start with. Ha jst kidding. I think someday I will get some. I actually like them. I tease Kerry......" I am going to get a show girl rooster and put it with your silkies"

they will be fertile for up to 3 weeks by that rooster, so gather eggs now and repeat.

VioletBlueIvy, I don't like pickled eggs, but I have heard you can freeze them to use in baking later. I think you scramble them and put them in ziplock bags, but you'd have to do a search. You could feed some to the chickens, too!

My sick chicken is still alive. I hope to treat her tonight.
Glad to hear she's still with us, bucka!

Or I saw some people using a really large dog crate... and just putting boxes around the sides to keep drafts out
That's my set up right now--dog crate & boxes--in the dining room.

scramble them and put them in ice cube trays, once frozen pop them out and put them in a baggie in the freezer.
I heard this same thing but with an added sprinkle of salt to the scrambled mix.

Sorry about your roo. I've had a few chickens just drop dead over the years, and it's always shocked me. Hopefully you can get a number of eggs collected and incubating.
