My bee stuff just arrived

Now all I need to do is wait until May for the bees ....

Since today is the first day of Spring, I did a bird & chick count.

I have 64 birds in the barn, 76 chicks and 6 started birds in the chick room upstairs.

I think I can stop hatching for this year

Has anyone ordered any supplies from mypetchicken.com?

ETA: For those who raise baby chicks--where do you keep your brooders? Also, I have a cat...does anyone have issues with any pets trying to eat their chicks?

OMG.... seriously. I have a lot to learn from you and I don't know if I should hope for this kind of success or to learn what NOT to do. Five of six chicks are out and healthy. Your comments on hatching were in my head today. I do have one I think is shrink wrapped. Waiting a bit longer to see. It pipped last night but still isn't out. Still chirping but not a lot of activity as of late. This 'new mom' gig is so tiring. I don't know how you do this by yourself.

I keep my brooder in the room off the kitchen (it's like an extra living room, kinda) for the first 1-2 weeks to acclimate them to people. Then they go into the basement where the mess is much easier to contain. Sometimes they start off in the basement, too, but I try to keep them upstairs for a bit. My cats like to watch the chicks, but they don't lunge at them, and when I pull the chicks out, the cats just smell them and then walk away.

I've not ordered from them but as far as your chicks, it really depends alot on YOUR cat. some don't care, some only care about the outside birds and others think all are fair game. a spray bottle works wonders to keep the cat away but if your container is secure, you should be fine.

Mine is in the same room with everything else right now: Library. It will be moved down to the basement level at some point I imagine. My dog is jealous. She just watches and tries to put herself in between me and them so I see her. Oh yeah, there's that pesky German Sherhard I thought I had!
