Can't travel to Bangor and back for that either lol

Thanks for the info Polly. DMRipey (user in another thread) has a brooder made out of an old bathroom under sink cabinet. I have to make something like this. For now I might just use a shelving unit meant for seedlings. btw 8 for 8 are out. The last one was out of there awful fast! "Wait for me! Wait for me!"

Someone in here was interested in Basque and Hedemoras. Who was it?

Congrats on your hatch! My last one was also out like a lightening bolt as soon as I isolated the egg so the others couldn't play ping pong with it.

Just saw some great u tube shots of raising the BSF larva. Apparently, they are really high in calcium and protein. They live nearly their whole life as larva, only live a few days as (big) flies, lay their eggs and die. They don't bite (or even eat as adults) but reportedly, something in their pheramones repels other flies from the area. I'm hoping that is true, I could do with fewer deer and black flies, lol. With an efficent set up, they nearly harvest themselves. They eat veggi scraps and fruit trimmings, etc. In the process, they compost the veggi matter to compost super fast (heat it up and tolerate much higher temps than earthworms). I plan to try them this Summer.

Black Soldier Fly, perhaps?
Yeah, mealworms, less gross out factor Lazy G!
