Maine

and it looks like our week of summer weather is here now so im heading out to pick some strawberries they are picking now at both tates and adams strawberry farms glad im only a 10 min drive from both places

I was born and brought up here but had the chance to live in other parts of the US. I spent a couple years in Chicago. For a huge city it wasn't too bad. At the time I was working at Lincoln Park Zoo so I spent my days where it didn't feel like I was in the city. Weather wasn't too bad there thanks to Lake Michigan. Sort of like here with the snow and heat. However I do not miss the traffic. There were times when it took over and hour to get home and I only lived three miles from the zoo.

Next I lived in Lake Ariel, PA for just over a year. That's in the NE part of the state near Scranton. Pretty area. A bit hot in the summer. Winters a bit nasty. Plenty of wildlife around including a black bear who came up on my back porch while my Gt. Pyrenees was outside on the porch.

Finally I spent a few months in West Palm Beach, FL. Now I like to visit FL especially Disney but living there is just not my cup of tea. Too hot and humid. Everything always feels damp. The bugs are insane. The anoles (the little lizards that are everywhere) are fine but I'm not too thrilled with all the poisonous snakes slithering about. Keep in mind I worked with all sorts of reptiles as a zookeeper and actually like them; especially alligators. But it is not fun when you have to do a yard check before letting your dog out to check for cold blooded predators. And don't even get me started with fire ants. They are just plain nasty.

So even though Maine has a few issues I can't think about living anywhere else.

I only have a couple, but they are all tinted because of the red heat lamp bulb. I'm hoping to take them out in the sunshine and take some pictures

( hopefully the sun will come out tommorow!) 8 blue splash/silvers and 3 mixed colored ducklings ( so you could get a fawn & white, dark slate colored, beige or mixed color) I'll be able to tell more as their colors start to come in. They are a bunch of cuties too!

I have 2 chicks of different ages that I am growing out for a little while, and should be available soon!

Newest addition should be here in about 2 weeks as well....and I am ready!!! Very hard to accomplish barn chores being so "round" haha.

CranberryCreekFarm - were your ducks at the Sanford store this saturday?

A Royal Bahamian Potcake is a mixed breed dog from the Bahamas. They are named after the 'cake' from a bean and rice dish that is left in the pot after a couple days. The locals would feed the dogs the 'cake' and eventually the dogs were just known as Potcakes. They weigh about 40-50 pounds. They are mutts but over the generations they have developed many similar characteristics so they are pretty much their own unique breed. They were developed from all the breeds that ended up on the islands over the years.

Sarah (aka Sarah Jane Smith) was born on Abaco Island on 12/25/2001. She was rescued and brought to the US by a rescue group called SNIP. She and another Potcake were then put up for adoption by the Animal Welfare Society in Kennebunk. I adopted her there in May of 2002. Overall I really like them and would gladly rescue another.

Widget, you always have unique pooches! She is a pretty handsome looking dog too. Almost a gray hound muzzle and whatnot. (probably no grayhound, but a pretty dog none - the less!)

Hi! I'm new to to forums, but this is interesting. When I was very small, we had chickens. I think they were New Hampshires, but was too young to remember anything else. I've always liked them but never got any. Now I'd like to start a small flock. Tractor Supply in Sanford is having a farm day soon, and I will go to make some conections. I don't have a coop yet so I can't get any birds. I've been reading books and magazines, and talking to neighbors who have birds. I don't want to make any mistakes that the birds pay for. I guess you can tell I'm new to chickens too.

Thank you widget for answering . She really is lovely , looks sweet . But I must confess I didn't expect a potcake to be a breed of dog LOL - I thought is was some kind of exotic small animal . Just goes to show you wont know till ya ask
