I moved the girls outside today. they're in their 3 x 6 tractor, and at first were all standing around on the elevated section, not wanting to get down and play in the dirt! I intend to let them camp out tonight. The big tractor, which may not be a tractor (because it is too big and heavy) is not quite finished, but progress being made and it's in it's semi permanent location. I'm getting pretty proficient with a jig saw! Of course the big job will be cleaning up all of the mess left behind by the girls. My 11 year old has been campaigning pretty hard to sleep outside. How bad would it be to let him sleep in the big tractor... before the girls move in???

How does anyone ever turn off the incubator? Gosh, now that they are popping out I have to say I love the stress of it :) I have two broodies all of a sudden. It happened this week. I am going to let them go for it. I purposefully kept the Ams that went broody last year and like to give them a chance to have chicks.

This morning hatched a Mottled Java, Favorelle and Ameraucana. I was VERY disappointed that an Am died in the egg. Totally my fault for not watching closer. I do believe I could have saved it.

I can't wait to set some more! I figure if I wait 2-3 more weeks to set any then these new ones will be ready to go outside by the time the next round hatches. Plus by then I can be sure any chicks hatching out are from my blue orp roo, not the buff we got rid of. :D But man, waiting that long is gonna be tough!

I'm sorry to hear about your Am. :( What happened to it? I have four eggs I'm still waiting on here, haven't even pipped yet. Tonight will make 21 days, so they're not late, but I'm still nervous about them since everyone else hatched early. I wish those shells were see-through so I could know what was going on!!
