Would it be bad if I even kept a spreadsheet of when things sprouted, when they formed buds, when they made food?

And by the way, my cherry tree pits still haven't sprouted, and I've dug around in their pots a few times. That's the last thing I'm waiting on.

I found my Barred Rock roo and my missing Barred Rock hen alive and well this morning, but I am still looking for my BLRW pullet, OE pullet, Buff Orpington hen, and my Silkie roo. Here's hoping ....

Hooray for the Rocks!!

Hoping for the rest of them now!!

And WHERE did you find them?? And thanks to those who think my new Avatar is cute. "He" is our new Saddleback Pomeranian baby. What a little shaggy thing he is! So sweet.
He is a cute little thing! I never knew there were so many different breeds of ducks! Always learning something new on here.

Thank you everyone!!! No, we are not related, but everyone asks that, haha! Rob is a super nice guy though! :)
That he is! I worked with both his dad & step-mom. Great people!!

So, let me guess... you're one of those gardeners who plants their seeds, then goes out the next day... and the next... and the next... and digs around to see how many have sprouted. I fess up to doing the same. How many others out there are afflicted with the same obsession???
Okay...okay...I fess up! I just love watching the process!

Not at all bad! I'd say that's the sign of a good farmer!

Have to re-home all of my roos

The crowing was just getting too much. We do live in town so it would have been different if our neighbors were further away. The last one goes Friday to a co-worker. My sister & I also have chicks due to hatch on Friday--my broodies, her eggs! We're going to camp so I'm gonna miss it.

Can't wait to see the little fuzzy butts when I get back!!

That sounds like a good idea! We used to write things like that on our calendar. Not every sprout or bud, but things like, "ate first raspberry", "asparagus tips emerge", or "frost". Unfortunately, we haven't done that in a while.

I still haven't even planted my corn, tomatoes, beans, peppers, etc. I do have tomato and pepper seedlings, which I hope to get in this weekend. One good thing about the hoop house, you can plant on rainy days. It's always a nice day in there.

you can start planning now, we also have a fall show which is generally the first Sunday of October at the Windsor fairgrounds in Windsor Maine.
My corn is coming out! Just needed to share. So excited. I was worried I planted wayyyyyy too soon (like 3 weeks ago) :D hoooray!

I wish wish wish I could be at the show. Next year I am taking the day off!

they have been at times in the past. now the poultry show takes up alot more area then it did and we end up using the show ring that the goats use as well as the poultry barn and the sheep barn.

I don't dig around, but I do confess to looking for sprouts multiple times in one day!!

Mustard- I'm glad your corn came up!

Why can't the goat show and the chicken show be at the same time?!??

I did my corn and beans last weekend and it's rained every day since then, it will probably start to rot. tomatos will go out this weekend if I get a chance and my peas are 3" tall.

It's really helpful for me year to year to try and make things better. I also put on there things I wish I did. Last year was "leave them in the cold frame a week longer." So this year I did (and then some). I still don't have much in the ground. The tomatoes and peppers are still in the cold frame or hoop house in their planters. I've at least managed to transplant the tomatoes into larger planters once. I can also tell which plants do better in this climate from my reports on when they bud and when I get my first edible delight. I should add my wild strawberry and blackberry plants, and the frosts. Thanks for that idea.

I've always been a charts and graphs type of person, but DH's reaction to SCG's spreadsheet for sprouting, budding, bearing fruit: "Tell her I think there's a drug for that".

I don't think he's totally against the idea though, because a few minutes later he said, "A lot of that is really weather dependent. I think our new weather station might keep track of heat units, if we can figure out how to read it....."

Does anyone have suggestions where I might get pullets locally during the summer? I missed PFU's ordering and I am to nervous to order straight runs anyways due to our zoning. I'm looking for bantums in the fryeburg area. Also, can you purchase birds at the fryeburg fair?

I am totally guilty of checking out what is sprouting every day. This is our first year so all I ahve so far is a detailed diary of what was planted when and a illustrator drawn map of the garden so I can plan rotations

. I love the idea of tracking when things sprout and bear fruit. Next year I think I will be getting a weather station.
