AW! Love the new goat SCG!

Not that I like llamas that much, but I think we need a guard llama...then I could let my ladies free range with less worry!

Woo hoo!

Can't wait to meet them. Got a great name for this one yet??

Crazy egg day yesterday: very tiny pullet egg in the cottage, momma duck started laying again, Ancona duck eggs arrived, moved eggs out of the bator to under a broody to make room for Ancona eggs and last night two Marans I ordered pipped. Of course NOW the bator is freaking out but I am watching it closely. I think there is cocci in one of the brooders so I am dosing them. We lost two poults with no clear reasons for why. One was dead under momma and the other was dead in the pen with her. I don't think the heat helped them but I don't know. Amidst all this I have to order cords and think about freezing my arse off again.

Thanks. That first picture made my day! What kind? Never seen such small goat ears. How old? What are your plans for him/her??

We lost our Nubian doe a few weeks ago. This ones not even 3 months old yet. Eventually my plans are to breed her and milk her. I have a wether (neutered male) Nubian that's at a friends house now (goats are pack animals, so he had to find a temporary home after my Nubian died until I could get a new goat). The friend is going to give me a 3 month old doeling to keep mine company until breeding season is over. Apparently my wether is a good companion for his full grown doe right now. So this fall I should get my wether back, lose the doeling that's not mine and if mine makes weight, then breed her.
Her ears are called elf ears. They're LaMancha style ears. There's smaller LaMancha ears known as gopher ears which are just little nubs. Because she's only half LaMancha (and half oberhasli) she has the "larger" elf ears.
A far cry from the Nubian ears I'm used to:

totally awesome. I'v always loved goats. IMO, a goat would be a good substitute for a dog. Hubby doesn't like them, says their eyes look evil! What's not to love about a goat??? Roos are showing their true colors. If 2 are allowed to range with the pullets, they wait until everyone is going to bed, then hold one out and run her back and forth between them, and harass the daylights out of her. I'll be juggling coop and range space between now and Saturday to keep the roos away from the pullets.

How common is it for goats to get lice? Growing up, my friend and her sister had a couple of goats and I remember one day not being able to play with them because they had it.
