Maine

for planning purposes, the next meeting date is jan 13th Sunday- (normally it is the 3rd sunday of the month but it' conflicts with a major show that most of our members attend.)
Thank you- I am putting in my calendar - if I have something to add to auction do I just bring it - do I need to coordinate with anyone regarding potluck - or just come with something - looking forward to it

bring what ever for the auction table (birds are fine too just bring them in a box that can go with them). all proceeds go to the club (not the person that donated it) as far as pot luck, if you are eating, plan to bring a dish to share, can be whatever, no need to coordinate.

Gallina Sarda, Yes, sorry I didn't use your pen name. How's the hoop house working for you? Is it just tarped, or insulated? How are the girls doing? If you're interested in sharing an order in the spring, give me a yell. Am planning to share an order with a gal from Orrington, most likely early March from m mc. She's well experienced, has the usual poultry plus guineas and peacocks. My wish list is 2 each Dominiques, Australorpes, and preferably Ameraucanas (but will settle for EE), realizing that true Ameraucanas are scarcer than hen's teeth (pardon the pun) unless you know a breeder. Also amused with the idea of making an incubator just for the challenge (have a friend with the standard styrofoam unit). Would be a great learning project for myself and the kids. I have plans to build a 4x8 double decker tractor, plus a smaller more mobile 4x8 that will stand alone (great over raised bed) or attach to larger tractor. I built a cattle pannel 8x8 hoop house with 4 mil poly this fall, and am very pleased with how that is working. May add an other to provide winter run space for birds next fall. Am big into deep mulching gardens and see eggs as a by product of having a good source of organic fertilizer, mulch, and pest control. not to mention the entertainment value. Currently researching the topic to death.

Woo, finally home! Hoppy and Joanie, it was great seeing/meeting you today! Joanie, your birds are AWESOME by the way! They were trilling all the way home.

Wound up keeping a splash and a blue for myself, and letting Kim have the other splash instead. She was thrilled. Plus, this way I'll be able to tell my two apart.

Hoppy, I can NOT WAIT to give Mom her gift! They are going to be over the moon. It is incredible work! Hope you both had a safe ride home, it was snowing by the time we left Augusta (had to run to WalMart after). At least I remembered to get gloves, since mine disappeared - just in time for the snow.

Hoppy, I'm sorry to hear about your Grey

I couldn't imagine losing a pet after so many years.

Keric, good luck on the egg!

Clover, those chicks are adorable!!

Ash, hope those teeth come through and she settles down for you. Poor thing

Annabanana - what a great gift! So thoughtful of them. Sorry about the attack though.

Paula, I'm sorry to hear you lost a bird.

Welcome lazygardener, Keric, and Gallina!

Widget, congrats on the job!! It may not be ideal, but at least it's something. Did you hear back from TSC yet?

SCG, I agree! That's one of my biggest dislikes of winter, there is just so little light. Give me summer with a 9pm sunset any day!

Sorry for anyone I missed!
Thank You Gracejr.

Just had to share my excitement! My in laws are visiting and were here to witness the attack the other night. They called me into the kitchen today to show me something. My FIL put a light in the coop with a nice heavy duty extension cord... AND A REMOTE!!! i. can turn the light on and off from my nice warm house

Remote control light for the coop...soooo envious!!! Very cool!!!

I had a really great time at the CMBF Meeting yesterday.

It was nice getting to meet Hoppy and AshandVine. Next time I think I might bring my Gram. She can't always hear very well but I think she would enjoy the "social" aspect. She's 86 and after the meeting I'd take her over to Morse's for some German food!

Soooo I planned on NOT getting any birds! Yet there are now two more very lovely OEG Bantams in my coop and 2 stunning Barred Rock Bantams that my husband really, really likes, go figure...

I learned a lot actually. Urmmm like I had no idea that if I wanted to show (not that I ever have but maybe now I will) my OEG that I need to modify my roosters comb and wattles... Guess I'll need to read about that.

FYI - There are some good cooks in the CMBF too, maybe that will entice more people to attend.

Also I felt immediately welcomed. Hoppy hadn't arrived yet and though I walked in a complete stranger I ended up quickly being included in conversations and everyone was friendly. That is the first time I have ever attended a new meeting etc where I actually felt welcomed as a new face. Thank you CMBF members!!!

I'm going to join now...

Irene

You got those bantam barred rocks? Oh my son was so jealous. They are incredibly nice quality. I wish I had a truck I could have bid on that bird cage. We definitely wanted it.

I hid behind Hoppy for most of the meeting but at the end the folks were pretty nice to me, too. I don't like the location but that's another matter.

How many folks are hatching or planning and to and what may I ask?
HEY CHICKMAGNET, I expect you to chime in with a yes, I am breeding my lovely RIR
Hoppy and Clover have silkies
Who else?? This is like seed catalogs for me... I leaf through and dream of what spring will bring.

I am glad you went Ash - I hope to come next month. I am hoping to find some black leghorn, white leghorn and white rock eggs to hatch out as well - anyone have any - or will have some I want to add white egg layers to my laying flock. I have 2 white leghorns and they have not started laying yet.
