Maine

Ash thanks I would love the info for him. Hrmmmm if the Chanties are known for broodyness I may hold off until I am ready to expand the flock even more.

I have this killer flu that most of the country is suffering from. it is the first cold i have had in about 3 years and by far the WORST! UGH!

My silkie chicks are hatching! I woke to pips this morning!!!

Only 8 of the 30 I bought are due to hatch :( I think it was the mail.

Also-how do you guys feel about those automatic egg turners? These eggs were in one of those for the first couple of days while we went out of town for Christmas. A few that were infertile when I candled them I ended up cracking in the sink (I like to see whats going on in there) were stuck to the shell, leading me to believe hand-turning is better.

feel better soon. I think I am actually going to break down and get the flu shot this yr for me and the kids. one local child died of the flu and it's pretty scary this yr.

I have called all over central maine trying to find the nasal flu vaccine for the kids, no one has any. anybody know of a place in your area to get it? i've called osco, walgreens, cvs, rite aid, from augusta to belfast to bangor. I have a call into the local hospital. some places do have the interdermal, but kids can't get that one.

my kids are a bit too big to wrestle and have not forgotten the last shot they had which apparently really hurt.

I got my shot at Hannaford. Not sure if they offer the nasal spray, but you could check. I don't usually get the shot either, but this year's flu is supposed to be bad.

Keric, are you sure the automatic turner is working? I've never had a problem with sticking in the shell, but then again, I have not hatched all that many times.

Yeah it's one of those that are always turning, just really slow. So it's in a different position each time I take a peek. This was the first time we used it. I don't know if maybe my hatch rate was terrible because of that or the shipping. We've had good luck in the past with turkey eggs we had shipped...

keric I'd say it's probably the shipping. I'd had terrible hatches from shipped eggs and then some good ones. usually the boxes that are labelled hatching eggs, don't make it. I never have people label my egg shipments with any more then protect from freezing.
I called the local hospital, they have nasal flu vaccine and will fit me and the kids in

That is very weird. You'd think people would be extra careful with eggs... these were labeled as hatching eggs. Oh well as long as a few hatch out I'll be happy. :)

I think of it this way, if the shipping workers are unhappy about something or in a hurry, fragile items don't mean much, especially if they know they won't get caught (I know they don't all feel like this but it happens, we've all seen it on you tube). I feel it's better for them not to know.
