Hoppy, I did hear that the flu vaccine is only preventing flu in 62% of people this year, but hopefully the fact that your kid had the vaccine will make it less severe and short-lived. Hope he feels better soon!

my son now has the flu, so much for getting the flu shot 10 days ago. he doesn't have a fever, low temp and puking and a rash that comes and goes, going to have to keep a close eye tonight and hope he;s better in the morning.
My 6 y.o. had it a couple of weeks ago. She was very sick, went immediately on Tamiflu. I can't imagine how bad it would have been without the Tamiflu. We spent 3 nights without sleep, almost ended up in the ER due to asthma complications. They say it would be worse without the immunity boost of the immunization... Either that, or the bugs that these kids are getting weren't in this years formulation. I hope your son gets well quickly.

I so agree. Glad there are those who are not ashamed of their dislike of fuzzy legs.
Were you talking about just the chickens??

That's amazing! I can make them turn green or blue or red, that's about it... I can't even begin to conceive of how to begin carving them; wonderful talent!

Here's another funny for those who need it.... like me....

My ducks were so dirty and miserable without water to wash in so I brought them in for a bath :) They clearly dirtied the water fast enough! But they are up there blowing bubbles and swishing their tails. Its great. Now comes the tough part; getting them out to dry off and cleaning up the tub after them. Bleach and more bleach.

Meant to add, if he is puking, maybe he has that nasty norovirus that is going around.

SCG, I'm wondering how your shipped egg hatch is doing? I can't remember when you set them.

Set most of them last Friday. I received another shipment on Wednesday so I candled then (no room in the incubator for the new eggs). 100% of the Olandsk Dwarfs had some kind of veining going on, which is amazing. 100% of my polish were duds. I was unable to fit 3 eggs into my incubator, so those, along with the dud polish, went out to the coop to sit under my non-broody but nestbox sitter nonetheless.
There's a thread about the newcomers... something about great shipped egg experiment, maybe.

How'd you get them in? I always carried mine in a rubbermaid bucket. They were highly displeased and would run all around it while I was trying to hold it steady. As long as you get to the tub quickly after they vacate it, bleach and a sponge will do just fine. I forgot about it one day and the poop and feathers and general crud required major elbow grease to get off the tub sides.

I hope no one dislike fuzzy human legs...mine are looking pretty bad right now...

Love the chickens in the tub! We used to have a big iguana ( 4 and a half feet long...) and he used the tub on a daily basis...and did all of his business there- I think we had the cleanest bath though because it was thoroughly disinfected every day!

So we got 5 eggs today- not bad, out of the 5, one larger and longer than normal, and one tiny! Here are some photos- with a regular sized egg for comparison....

Fun duck and egg gradation photos! :)

I found the thread, SCG. It will be fun to watch.

I am so eager for my hatching eggs to arrive, even though I originally had not planned to do any hatching until March or April. The good thing about doing two separate hatches is that it means more incubator space. My own hens that I want to hatch from are not laying (and even molting, -really bad timing with this weather).
I hope to plan the timing of my purchase of a few white egg layers to coincide with one of the hatches. For me, it seems like a challenge to grow out two different age batches of chicks, but since everyone else does it regularly, I should hopefully be able to pull it off!

wow, what a size difference!
my ducks now have 9 eggs but I keep telling myself not yet. I have 1 due next week and 3 more incubating. i think in 2 weeks, 4 weeks if i can control myself, I'll try to hatch a few more.
and thankfully my son is 100% back to normal today. i guess the biggest thing I worried about is his sub normal temp and he wasn't cold although the house was cold and i needed a sweater.
