Watching a snowstorm outside while watching chicks hatch inside......Priceless!

So, how much snow do you have now, and when did it start for real?? Only a couple of inches of fluff here this morning, then the sun came out, briefly. I'm sure the second installation will be along sometime this evening.

We have about 3-4 inches of fluff - winds were picking up at dusk - dark of course now - but still snowing and very very very cold!! Barely 20. I understand we are suppose to get slammed tonight and tomorrow?

It did not really start here until afternoon - maybe 2 or 3 ish.

It started here at around 3am and hasn't stopped. I would guess that there is about 8 inches on the ground now. I've knocked snow off the horses' shelter twice now and plan on doing it again before I go to be and at least once in the middle of the night.

Any flight that wasn't cancelled at the airport came over to deicing. The snow was really light and fluffy which made our job so much easier. We could use straight air to get most of it off before switching over to heated fluid. By 1pm the rest of the flights were cancelled for today and most of tomorrow.

I admire any businesses that are closed today and tomorrow. Anyone who ventures out shopping for something that isn't due to an emergency is not only foolish but very selfish.

It snowed lightly all morning in Waterville. School closed at 12:30, and while I wanted to do errands, someone's spouse reported white-out conditions in the Gardiner area. I decided it was best to head right home, buones soon as I arrived, it stopped snowing. We have less than an inch here and are still waiting. Radar shows it is just south of us.

9 of 13 babies hatched . silkies and showgirls, had a heck of a time with the humidity as it is so dry in here. 2 were shrink wrapped but managed to save them.
just in case we loose power in this storm , even tho we have a small generator , I gathered up some of my slate shingles that came off from the roof of an old mill in topsham. I have them by the wood stove keeping them warm. my thought was if worse scenairo being that we loose power I can use the slate shingle to keep the chicks warm.
All the animals are tucked in for the night. will be setting more eggs after the storm.
snowblowing and shoveling tomorrow. Yuck !

I would love to see pics of your showgirls - not many breeders and even rarer good quality - what generation are yours? I love them!! I had to help one of my silke chicks today too. There seems to be a lot of hatching going on today

I will try to get some pics on here as soon as I can. not sure what generation they are as i bought them , they have really nice black skin and bowties , I will be watching to see how the babies do. I love showgirls they are so interesting and fun they also have nice dark wattles. I am hoping to evently breed paint into them as well as wanting to get some blacks. work in progress , hoping to improve them as I go along. Hatching is such an addiction I think .
glad your your chick made it.

It didn't start snowing till around 8am here and going strong.
Cute babies. What is a solarium for chickens? I totally want to see pictures of that! I know what a solarium on a house is...
That cuckoo bird looks like a Marans. The Fav and Showgirl both have fuzzy legs! Its cute, like two Las Vegas chickens!

SCG-- How are my Houdans???

Echo, I am about an hour from you I think. Depends on where in Appleton you are. If I head up to Augusta and then out Rt 3 it might not be that long... not sure.
