I must be crazy because I am learning that there ARE a couple kinds of NN that I don't think are so bad.... and it helps that they creep the crap out of SO LOL! I just love it. FTR the blue laced ones with the black skin are pretty. Anything else... well, it depends.

Got the bator going. I could use some tips for how to get up and keep up the humidity during the last week.

I could still lend you Thriller.
My eggs are on like day 15 so I hope we don't loose power either. We don't have a generator, but we do have a wood stove to keep them warm. Out here in the sticks, we loose power every now and then.

My bator unplugged for about 12 hours during one of my hatches pretty late in the game. It didn't cause any irreparable harm. Just keep the lid closed.

I am hatching some eggs from my flock. They'll be mutts, but they will be cute!

I like mutts, I have a couple i hatched last year. I have my shipped BLRW eggs in there, so Im hoping for a good hatch and some sizzle, showgirl, silkies. Good luck with your hatch.

I use gauze pads in mine, they are sterile and I can cut them to the size I need and they absorb the water out of the troughs and are thin so that the don't interfere with my tray. the gauze works better for me then anything else I have tried.

Sometimes mutts all look alike, too. I don't know much about chicken genetics, but I'm thinking blue feathering must be dominant. Almost all my olive eggers look like "dad", with blue feathering.

the gauze sounds like a good humidity boosting idea. I used some new wash cloths last time. The main thing is to get a lot of surface area exposed, and have a straw handy that you can easily wiggle down through a vent to the level of the washcloth and add water as necessary. I usually add water everyday after lockdown.

Mutts are my favorite breed. I like the assorted colors and I like that I can tell them apart. And they're especially cute with a naked little neck.

The 3 possible fathers are 1. blue silkie, 2. EE, and 3. Barred rock/Byckeye cross. The mamas: BLRW, Buff Orpington, EE's, Ameraucana, White Leghorn, Golden Comet, Welsummer, Red Dorking, RIR, Wyandotte/Marans cross, and Barred Rocks. There should be some interesting looking babies hatching. Can you imagine if the silkie roo mated with the orpington ?! That would be one funny looking baby! :lau

I used a clean wet washcloth in mine last time. I can't remember who told me to do this, but it worked.
