What!?? I thought it was hilarious! I knew that SCG would tell me how trivial it was and could nearly predict the wording but honestly it was worth the laugh. SCG told me the other day that pieces of ovaduct could be in there too. I think sharing that wasn't probably the ball that got it all rolling. I am an imp secretly... not so secret now, but I am. He was much more supportive of me hanging out a shingle since. He is also totally okay with me buying a bunch of RO and moving forward with just ONE breed. I think he imagines that would mean significantly less cockerels (ie sperminators) and probably less need for pens. I figure THIS is why they say to work with one or two breeds. Right.Well, I have ones here I like. Quick: poll! Favs, Marans, Rocks, Ams or Orloffs... nevermind. Orloffs stay and the rest will .... stay too! lol

Anyone have a white Marans pullet/hen?

He's so silly. It's just an extra cell that happens to contain genetic material.

Freak him out - ask him if he wants to eat ovaries... and then serve squash, or an apple... and secretly giggle inside.
Just this morning, my hubby was expressing similar discomfort re: eating eggs from a farm with a rooster. What is it with these guys anyways???

Kinsey, it looks like you and I have the same hatch day, and hoppy is not far behind. So far, out of 16 that made it to lockdown, 5 are out and 2 pips. There are 3 olive eggers, 1 Ameraucana, and 1 cuckoo Marans. I hope they keep coming!

ash, that is so weird about the fertile eggs!

So today I confirmed that the mother turkey has three babies. It was the first time I have been able to see them since they hatched about a week ago. The hen was sitting tight on them to keep them warm that's for sure but now she is starting to get up a little. I am not sure if I should move them into a larger pen. They are in a nest box that is designed for chickens and she can't even stand to stretch. I did lock them in with wire fencing to keep them from escaping onto the floor down below. Does anyone have any thoughts on how or when I should move them?

Oh yeah and the crnish x rocks arrived today. Out of 26, 1 was dead. So far so good. They are already starting to pig out. Their fluffy cuteness is soon going to be a thing of the past as they morph into these slobs that eat poop and sleep.

Mine are just going to be mixes. The possible fathers are: silkie, EE, and barred rock cross. The possible mothers: buff Orpington, barred rock, leghorn, dorking, Welsummer, EE's, Ameraucana, and RIR. I think that's all of them. The bator is going to be filled on Thursday with Red Dorking, Dominique, and 15 assorted eggs. Busy, busy.
