We have a ton of it here. I even have a couple feed sacks filled up with chicken/shavings. Someone was supposed to come get them a few weeks ago and never did. Should still be frozen and easily transportable.


I don't live in that part of the town, I'm closer to the 201 side, so very accessible.

Why not build your own ;-) its just some wood planks screwed together staple a chicken screen to the front and viola! its pretty easy peasy... now getting hubbys permission... thats not something I can help you out with it took me long enough to get mine on board ;-)

Haha I know that coffee shop! I used to live in Palermo and drove by it on my way to work everyday! I think that it was the fat cat grill then though....

This looks like a brahma from what I can see. Maybe the chick got in the wrong bin? Can we get a picture of the body and face?

Do these pics help? She is nose to nose at the feeder with the other "Araucana" and in between the 2 BRs. She really has no "beard," especially compared to the other one who looks like a little teddy bear-so cute! I am looking forward to seeing what this chick turns out to be.

Welcome to all the new Mainer's!

I have 20 dozen eggs in my fridge! We cant eat them fast enough, or sell them fast enough.
I was thinking of pickling them, does anyone have a particularly good recipe?

On another note, does anyone have Ancona ducks up this way? I would like a couple ducklings. Our Pekins are attempting to sit for the third year in a row, nothing ever hatches though. Last year she was stalking the broodies trying to steal their chicks. It's so sad, she wants babies of her own so much.

Oh my gosh! I have eggs being shipped to me otday from 2 different places...I really really hope the storm doesnt muck things up too badly.

Btw, if my hatch goes ok, is anyone interested in some seramas??? I dont knkw what I was thinking, I dont do bantams! But they are so cute and tiny...

Me!! I am in Poland and am looking for some bantams. Keep calling Tractor Supply but no bantams yet, when is your hatch due?

Aren't they fun?! As I'm sitting here, I'm listening to mine chirping and scratching around in their brooder in the other room. They are so cute to watch, as they mimic the adult chickens!

LOL...I can hear mine too. We have one who is so nosey. Anytime we take someone out of the brooder then put them back in, she runs right over to them and checks them out.

It's hard to get excited about snow at this point, even with the day off! I'm pretty sure I have a hen with sour crop. She was drinking a ton of water, and then threw up a ton of water. I got her to eat a tiny bit of yogurt and bread with olive oil. I have never seen sour crop before, but after doing some reading, I plan to pick up some monistat and try that. I'm working into the evening the next 2 nights, so hopefully she'll be okay until I can treat her. Of course, it is one of the lavenders....

Bucka, Hope she's feeling better soon. Ditto on the snow!

Looks like a dark brahma to me, although I could be wrong. Here's Sexypants passed out when I first got her... looks similar.

VioletBlueIvy, I don't like pickled eggs, but I have heard you can freeze them to use in baking later. I think you scramble them and put them in ziplock bags, but you'd have to do a search. You could feed some to the chickens, too!

My sick chicken is still alive. I hope to treat her tonight.

Looks cute I would be worried about them growing out of it too soon because I got heavy breed and we put them in a plastic tote without a cover and by the end of the week they were pretty much crowded.... why not leave them in a box for the first week then put them in something like this for the second or third on.... How To Build a Trouble-Free Chicken Brooder you wouldnt have to build anything!

Or I saw some people using a really large dog crate... and just putting boxes around the sides to keep drafts out or a rabbit cage or a feed/water bin from tractor supply....
