Welcome in advance. That's exciting to know that your property already has a coop. That's saving you a huge night mare... having to design and build one. Believe me, building materials are not cheap!!!

Izzybella, Longhorn in Buxton sells sexed day-old chicks and their last pick up date is July 12. They offer lots of other breeds besides Rocks (shipped from Cackle Hatchery), but availability of certain breeds may be limited late in the season.
Also, you must put an order in with Longhorn's at least 4 weeks before arrival, so you will need to think ahead if you go that route.

9 out of 10 hatched here. It was my fault #10 didn't make it. I should have been watching. It was totally ready and developed (egg topsy). BUT 9 are happily and twittering. I love how they run to my hand, unlike the hatchery birds who run away.

That brooder is great. I would love one with a divider I could slid in and out of the middle via a groove.

Widget, the horse poo is TOTALLY welcome and if you are bringing it you don't need a trailer gate. Put it near the cab with a weighted tarp over it. Its a bit of a drive though so maybe we'll plan for you to come for another reason so its two birds and one stone. Birds maybe, or eggs, or... MW? lol

Not sure who asked but the Partridge Chanteclers are a flock I got from another bird fancier. Not sure who the CL add is. I have a couple Basque too and one of them can go so if someone wants a Basque that is ready to 'work' let me know. I have enough boys.

I only have 1 Wyandotte left in my flock. My BLRW girl. I am debating if I should get more. After all, I "only" have 15 hens, 2 roos, and 40 something eggs in the bator. Hoppy, do you have any Wyandotte and/or Orpington ladies that you wanna sell?

Someone on CL was getting rid of their partridge chantecler flock too - and a few other breeds.

I was thinking of putting in a divider too. Handy for different hatches/ages

I have 2 SLW and 2 Light Brahmas for sale on CL if anyone is interested. They are healthy but we have feather picking issues going on. As well as rooster favoritism going on. They are laying and are just under a year old. I'm asking $8.00 each for them. PM me if anyone is interested. Thanks! I'd rather not ship so I'm looking for someone local.

So the trip to Lubec was fun. The ride was 4hrs one way but it was fast. It was nice to see all of the Muddy Hoof Farm. She had a lot of nice little coops everywhere. Roosters crowing and Guinea fowl screaming. Oh yeah and geese hinking and turkeys gobbling, Nice goats also.

Just finished putting the eggs in. Day 0.

The top comes off completely and is very light so I can use it outside as a mini tractor/chick playpen.

I introduced myself a few months ago... we're moving to Maine this summer. We have officially found a property that allows chickens (no roosters) and already has a coop. Very excited! The earliest I'll be able to get them is mid-July, due to the moving schedule. I'm thinking barred rocks to start. Do you think it's too late to start them in mid-July? Will there still be young chicks available locally then? I'd like the experience of raising them. It's been fun watching this forum... especially all the hatching going on!
