Maine

They don't look like naked necks, but they are cute! Do they have cheek tufts? Hard to tell in the photo.

My chicks are almost 5 weeks old, and I'll be interested to see if I have more pullets than I expected. I thought I had 2, but the second blue Marans may be a girl. She grew a small comb fairly quickly, but it is not pink yet.
My slow feathering wheaten with narcolepsy someone thought was a girl too. I hope I can figure it all out soon.

If I have more girls, that will take some pressure off the new rooster grow out tractor, but I haven't figured out what I will do with the other 24 eggs in the incubator!

My sister wants to come from California in August and visit for a week, and then she wants to chicken sit for 2 days while DH and I go camping. She loved watching the chickens the last time she was here. I only had one coop then, though, and it is looking more like 4+ pens by the time she comes. I hope she thinks more is better!

Has anyone here seen a Nacked Neck that didn't have a naked neck? Are they a specific breed or are they similar in respects to Easter Eggers? Like people just breed anything with the NN gene. I just got my BLRWs today which I have to say this guy is A-W-E-S-O-M-E! I bought 10 BLRW but he sent 20 chicks in all 16 BLRW and 4 blue/splash something or other that he said were NNs that were hatched with no naked neck! He said he sometimes get these so just threw them in for warmth. They are the absolute most sweetest chick I have every had. I have no clue about NNs as I thought they were ugly, but these are adorable! How do they lay number of eggs wise? I took a picture but need to find the cord for it.

On another note I wish I had discovered hatching in egg cartons 2 hatches ago!!! I decided to try it because my hatch rates are so horrible! It is at the begining of my third hatch we are now on day 20(day 20 started at 9 PM tonight) and 1 are hatched and 3 are pipping make that 1 hatched, 2 sitting in their eggs with the tops off like cartoon eggs so not sure if that is actually considered hatched, 2 pipped and 1 zipping

this is crazy rediculous! I know I shouldn't count my chicks before they hatch and all, but WOW the cartons seem to already make a difference. The other hatches wdidn't even pip until after day 22 and only ever 2 hatched at the same time! For my first hatch 25% and my second hatch only 10%! If these were just the AM eggs it would be one thing but it is my 2nd batch of MF Cochins from the same breeder and the first time only 2 of 4 hatched(that developed out of 15) and those piped on day 22 and hatched on day 23. Or maybe I am just getting lucky my Turkeys did hatch 2 days early last weekend

The first hatch I did mess up a little though for one day I made the humidity way too high.

If you are reffering to Showgirls for the naked necks -then there is a 50% chance of getting a Showgirl naked neck with the hatch assuming it is being bred back to a silkie. I raise them - I think they are great although it seems like most have an instant like or dislike reaction to them.

I'm guessing that your temp was a tiny bit higher with this hatch compared to your previous hatches? Perhaps the egg cartons elevated the eggs a bit closer to the heating element. No matter why, congratulations.

I apologize because I made a scheduling error. I have a meeting on Sunday the 21st and have committed to volunteering at it so I have to be a PIA and ask you all to please change your plans to come to my house on Saturday the 20th. The time hasn't changed just the day. I hope this hasn't caused any of you to not come who wished to. Again, pm me for directions. Feel free to bring your partners who are into chickens. Some of you already are :)

Actually if anything my temps were lower, I kept opening the incubator because I had to hand turn eggs that were sitting on top of them, almost the entire incubation. Plus these were in the egg turner so no closer than the rest. I now have 6 hatched, 4 pipped and 2 zipping! I hope my Blue Marans hatch half this nice tomorrow!

well my coop was suppose to be built today but the carpenter cancelled again this morning. 4th time hes cancelled in the last month. time to find someone else done with the excuses. pisses me off.
