Maine

hey everyone...since my predators(hawk, raccoon and people) totally destroyed my flocks and my "specials", I have decided to not really do any breeding except for my lf choc orp project (but my roo seems to like me more than his girls

). I am still looking to rehome the two bantam choc orp roos, just too much noise and I don't plan to work with the bantams. So if anyone is interested I will go out tomorrow and grab a pic of them. I am also looking to rehome a soft feathered hedemora roo.

After all the bloodshed this past year my laying flock is severely depleted so I ordered some pullet chicks from Cackle. I don't plan to keep them all so if anyone is looking for some pullets in a few weeks after the kids pick their favs I will have some available. I got easter eggers, Columbian wyandotte, Welsummer, barred Plymouth rocks, rhode island reds and austra whites. Was just really looking for different colors than what I have that are good layers and not crazy, flighty.

Oh, and my dad just mailed me a bunch of them. Cicada carcasses, that is.
Could I get one from you? I used to have a few but can't find them and they would be great in my collection. Do you think chickens would eat them? Dried mealworms are basically the exoskeleton so.... maybe right??

We still have two baby ducks. :) Not the best pic but such cute expressions. We are naming them (gasp!) Merry and Pippin.

You're welcome to them. He had the foresight to put them in a tupperware container so they're nice and juicy. He put some money in there, too, so I would open the lid.

Their chickens love them.

Merry and Pippin are even more adorable today. I'm sure they have nice, large feet to go with those names.

Oh, the duckling photos are so sweet!

klf73, I found myself thinking, "oh, I would love another EE, or Wyandotte, or Welsummer, or Austra white", as though I could even consider adding any more birds! My goal is to get the numbers back under 50 (my supposed limit) by fall.

I have the 50 bird limit, too. I'm "meeting" that goal right now with some creative accounting:

46 chickens and turkeys in the coop (BELOW 50!)
1 banty hen brooding one duckling (WAY BELOW 50!)
15 roosters in the tractor (ALSO WAY BELOW 50)
3 adult ducks (WAY BELOW 50... don't have to mention the 20+ eggs she's currently brooding)
3 juvenile birds in one brooder, 15 in another, 3 in upstairs brooder.

See... I'm not over 50.

I though you had named them, Phew and Yey. sounds like something my kids would call them.
