Maine

My Silkie roo used to make nests for the girls too. He was such a good boy!

LOL! I had someone ask me about the blue/green eggs, if they taste different! Nope, but they taste better than the ones you buy in the store!!

I would have said, IT'S JESSICA, YOU DINGDONG!!! :barnie

Yankeehill, I'm so sorry for your troubles! :hugs  Hugs to you & your son.

So I had some good deep litter cooking in the coop until I asked my son to fill & hang the waterer. I told him while he was filling the 5 gallon waterer, with the hose, he only needed 2 gallons then proceeded to explain about hanging the waterer on the chain. He gave me a dirty look then pointed the hose at me.  I decided to check the coop before I left for my Dad's. The waterer was hanging cock-eyed with a little less than a half gallon left in it. I brought it back out to him and said here ya go put some more water in it.. :smack  He said he thought the chickens wouldn't be able to reach it if he hung it level. That's why he tilted it:he  I have no idea how much water was in it. I tried turn the wet litter into the dry litter and using a big box fan...WOOOODOGGY the next morning was NOT good!! :sick  I made him help me shovel out the coop. I shoveled--he schlepped buckets to the compost pile.
Ah the best intentions of kids. I have an 8 year old son who always does things with the best of intentions that end up disastrous. I go to bed with headaches purely from the many times I've rolled my eyes in the course of a day.

Hello. I am wondering, does anyone know where I can get some Jersey Giant eggs or chicks? They seem to be pretty non-existent around here.

There is a small farm near me that raises them for meat- not sure if they sell any otherwise- They are Grumpy's Organic Farm in Manchester, ME

Busssssy weekend. Guests coming tomorrow which means cleaning up. Mom coming next month which means really cleaning up (like washing the curtains and waxing the floor type cleaning...) and this week is integration week for the big chicks. My next boxes are about 2 feet off the floor of my coop so I am going to make them an enclosure underneath with only a chick size opening - so they have some place to escape from the big girls.

More planting in the garden, bean trellises to build, shopping to do...thank god I managed to get myself a 3 day weekend!

I found out an employee has been stealing from us at work too. :/ Going to be a fun week all together. sheesh.

Thank you, I think I may have contacted them once before asking for either live chickens or fertilized eggs but I lost their info, Now that I know the name I can look 'em up.
Thanks again!

Sometimes makes you wonder where their heads are at! Never a dull moment! But, when they finally get the concept of something that you're trying to teach them, the AH-HA! moment is well worth it.

Went to Blue Seal this morning. They had a shipment of turkeys and guinea hens, as well as a bunch of other breeds yet to be unpacked. What is it about seeing chicks that gets the mind going... AWW! They're so cute and fluffy.... I'd just love to bring a few home.... Reality check please!!!

How about not even seeing the, but just hearing them?? I called RT farms in Winthrop this AM with a few questions, and I could hear the chicks peeping! It made me want some!

I'm just wondering if anyone with more knowledge of RIRs could tell me if they think this one is a cockerel. I've just had the worst luck this spring getting them. If this one is one, too, that'll be three out of 10 chicks, this spring. Roosters are not allowed here in Brewer.

if you can post a clearer picture of its' head, might be able to tell.
