OMG LazyG!! I think like that about swingsets too...a trellis...covered with wire could be a small temporary coop--tractor possibly.

Oh yeah! I have one in my garden that's about 25 years old. I painted it with enamel paint, and it's still going strong. You could easily put little runners on one and turn it into a chicken tractor. I can just see it now, P/U some discarded skis, put a platform across one end of the cross bar, a little hardware cloth and plywood, and it'd be good to go! I'm just waiting for the day my 7 y.o. outgrows her swing set. I don't want her to grow up too quickly... she still uses it every day, but....

I'm waiting!!!!

DH found that google earth has new photos taken just this fall. They are much clearer than previous photos.

We noted that a few days ago, too, when scoping out land to possibly hunt on.

Our chicken run is now in the picture, and it looks like Mordor compared to all the lush green everywhere else. Our beehive is in the picture, as was our crazy squash plants in the front yard. Amazing that those can be seen on satellite.

I"ll have to check out google earth for new pictures of our place! We've done so much work out here, clearing land. Just last week Hubby knocked down some large Pine Trees to start clearing the orchard spot.

Have any of you ever dealt with fowl/avain pox? I am quite sure this is what I have been dealing with- it started with the rooster and slowly spread through the flock. They had blackish scab/wart looking things on combs, faces or near eyes, which all eventually dried up and went away after a few weeks time. What exactly would cause this? and is it true it won't happen again??

Two more things- My yoga instructor has a 5 year old Maine coon- fixed, indoors, good with dogs- that she is unable to keep. She helped me find a home for my foster kitten over the summer, so I promised I help her find one for hers!

Lastly- MY COFFEE POT BROKE THIS AM! When you get up at 5:30, this is not a good thing. I had to scramble to find the percolator we use for camping, got some done just in time for hubby to walk out the door....

They haven't updated my area. The coop isn't there and it's super grainy. I did Google my parents' house though and they got a hilarious picture of my dad looking up with a goofy face. He was working on his meditation rock garden (he's become a new man since retirement lol).

I <3 maine coons, but hubby would kill me if I took on another animal. I snuck in a new chicken last weekend and he came home early yesterday and discovered one of the hens in the kitchen. In my defense she needed to dry off after a bath and it was really cold yesterday. She broke a blood feather.

No coffee is a crisis. I've made coffee old-school style on the wood stove because of "pot failure". What kills me is when I brew a big pot and discover there is no cream, half & half or milk left. I don't do black coffee and since I have three kids to get dressed and fed and two off to school, going out to the store in the morning is just not an option.

Oooh, google updated our place. A lot has changed here since the old photo! We are now doing more construction and just cleared some more trees! The chickens keep hiding in the woods, they don't like excavators. It fun to watch them explore the work when the workers leave! I caught them climbing all over the heavy machinery I wish I had gotten a photo. I was scared that they might walk on the new cement. Luckily, they didn't! It would be cute though to have little chicken feet markings in the cement though.

I have to plant hops today! Finally, the weather has warmed up! Anyone have experience with hops? A friend gave me three rhizome pieces. I heard they get pretty big! Always, something new to plant. Speaking of trellises, I've been trying to figure a way to build some super sturdy ones. I have a grape that is getting pretty large and definitely needs something to cling onto. I also have a wisteria that needs a trellis. I never thought it would grow but this is the third year I have had it. I bought it at Reny's for like a buck! Now, I have hops that will need a trellis. I have some old oak stakes but they are only like 3 feet long....

I love coon cats but Heidi (my coon) would not be happy if I got another cat. So, I'll have to pass.

Are you sure it's avian pox? Maybe they just got a bit of frost bite? Or got scratched up in some brambles or something? I've never had to deal with that, thank goodness.

Last thing, I need to winterize the coop better this year. Last year my RIR rooster lost his comb to frostbite. I have coop envy seeing some of your photos. I need a bigger coop. I have a shed with a generator in it that we are trying to sell. I hope someone buys it soon, so I can convert it into a larger coop. Anyone need a kubota, diesel, giant super generator? If anyone is interested pm me!

I know for sure that it's not frost bite- it started before it got so darn cold! :) It was definitely more than scratches too- I thought maybe that's what it was at first, but it seemed to grow and spread a bit before it all went away. I should have taken photos! It did not look even half as bad as the photos I saw when I googled it though!

I am unable to help with the first two things - new at chickens and husband horribly allergic to cats (even though we could use one for mice...). I can, however, sympathize with the coffee situation. Good thing you found the camping percolator!
