Maine

I agree with this winter abhorrence!! I hate the cold but I must admit.. I love the cozy feeling of coming in out of the cold.

In Happier news ASH....I got my first beautiful blue egg from one of the ams :) I am so thrilled!!!!

Awwww.... I was just talking about missing my Am roo, Blue. All I have no is this project Am someone sent on accident. No more lovely pure Ams here unless I can find another decent cock/erel. Maybe in Boston this winter? I am glad the eggs are coming in. They should be a nice robin's egg color. I was picky about that. My Marans should start laying here any day -- ya hear that, you feathered pigs!? Lay me a darn egg already!

Parsimonious... it hasn't always been there but for a little while now. No one has ever even asked till now. Its funny to me. There was a discussion briefly about its meaning in another thread because it was used in relation to the Marans chest coloring.

Ashandvine, how old are your Welsummers? Mine are about 8 months, and still no eggs. None from any of my new hens yet (at least, I don't think so.) THey are green egg layers, so I would be seeing green or blue eggs...none yet. My Marans aren't laying yet either - though I did get a very long, darker egg yesterday - perhaps they're starting? The wait is KILLING me! It is irritating.

I actually looked up where in Maine Parsimonious is awhile back - haha! Then I figured it out.

I've decided to put my buff down this afternoon. The vet will do it for a very reasonable price, so I'm taking going that route. I never thought I'd be THIS upset over a chicken. Although she got more color in her face after being separated, her movement has been progressively deteriorating. She can no longer stand up easily and doesn't walk barely even a step, so I think it's inhumane to keep her living like this. I brought her in from her set-up in the garage to live her final few hours all comfy on towels in the warmth. She's napping. Ugh. :-(

So sorry IZZY.

I pulled the electric fencing today. It's quite toasty in their coop with the poly skirting. 2 girls working on eggs. I'm averaging 1/5 now. RIR now looking like she got run over by the lawn mower.

The solar lamps are the stake kind. I have 2 I bought last year after Christmas still going--not bad for 50 centers. My leghorns--1 was so mellow, laid her large white egg and didn't bother anyone. When the RIR's showed up, she joined her bossy, nosey sister in showing them who's in charge.
I saw in your sig you have a Siamese. I grew up with them and absolutely love them!

My husband got me a kitten when we were first dating. He used to bring her for rides in the truck. Quite the sight to see this big burly guy with a teeny tiny kitten riding on his shoulder. Knew he was a keeper!! We had 3 more after her. 2 of them lived to be 19 years old. They were my babies for my kids! I have 2 rescues now a gray tabby (found in a field at 4 weeks old) & a Maine Coon (that my DH & DD could not leave at the shelter) but will have another Siamese at some point.

Ahhh, I know that now. I'll go to the Dollar Tree before work tomorrow. Maybe I'll find them!

I do have a Siamese!! I don't think she's pure Siamese, but I think that's what her "main" breed is. She's a flame point with bright blue eyes. I looove cats. You should definitely get one again, but it's so good to hear you're a cat rescuer. :) I have long conversations with my little Lucy, and she always lays on my chest at night. It's pretty cute. She's four now.

I hope some of you will join us this weekend for the final swap of the season. it will be held at the tractor supply in augusta on saturday 8:30-1 (420 civic center dr). not just chickens but people do also set up with crafts and farm products. i will have chicks if presold, otherwise they will stay home (black wyandottes)

So sorry to hear this, Izzybella. I've said the same thing about being upset.

I always thought the flame points were pretty! All of mine were Sealpoints--2 were Siamese/Himalyans. My 3 were Mom, Dad & Son (Szechuan, Wonton & Teriyaki). Szech & Won lived to be 19 years old. I couldn't sit or lay on the couch without one or all of them with me. Teriyaki was 23 pounds and slept on my belly when I was pregnant with my son. That cat loved my son even before he was born! He would cry at the baby's bedroom door if it was closed.
