I also loved the chicken basket. Would like the pattern!
I have chocolate and white muscovies here who surprised the heck out of my son one morning late last week by flying a 40 feet from their house to where he feeds them. He was thrilled. According to him they land gracefully, even.
This is what I read about muscovies that I think is true. If you can get past their carbuncled face.... they look like a duck, act like a goose, eat like turkey and roost like a chicken. I was gifted a few, otherwise I don't think I would have tried them. We had them on a farm once years and years ago and they were not friendly, even after they should have gotten to know us. These ones we've raised are cautious but personable.
Baking and enjoying the warmer weather to get a few more things done. Wet, but at least warm.
I did get confirmation on what my Orloffs have. The only good news I have is that if I can get them treated then they will live and 1] its not transovarian so I could start over with this line if I hatch some and 2] it has a short shelf life so I could use the quarantine area they are in again without having to wait months. Its a long shot that they will make it to sexual maturity and I can get eggs but I am crossing my fingers big time. I might to ask the woman who sent them to me to send me chicks that she hasn't had out with all her other birds so that I can keep up with the genetics she has as they seem really really good. I spent a lot to get them.
