Widget, what a beautiful pup. I am working hard on DH about getting another dog or fostering. He is reasonable and thinks it may not be great timing seeing as how we are aiming for a baby sometime soon. I, however, am not reasonable and think another dog is a wonderful idea :D He is probably quite right but I can't help trying!

Lovely fog pics Ash. We had an amazing sunset with fog here too.

Bucka - I'm with you - nothing melted here, either, and I'm very concerned about the 6 to 10 inches of snow we're supposed to get tonight. I'm done with power outages - we've had a total of 4 since Thanksgiving (starting on Thanksgiving) with 5 long cold nights without power.

I'm going to get my chores finished up here in a bit, take the tree down, and then get working on storm prep.

Oh yes, tree felling here too.
Not looking forward to the snow either. Its a lovely insulator... after I move it around.
Have anyone's ducks started laying? Mine started around January last year but haven't begun yet.

My ducks are on strike right now. I think they are waiting for the weather to improve. So perhaps by June they will get back in the laying mode.

I guess my parents went with the unreasonable thought. They had seven kids and growing up we always had two or three dogs around. Plus they ran their own business so they definitely were busy. But it all worked out and the dogs and kids were very happy.

If you are not ready for a permanent family member I would say go with fostering. I really like the people at Big Fluffy Dog Rescue. Perhaps someday I will actually foster a Big Fluffy. So far all three of my fosters have been medium/large and not fluffy. But all have been great and rewarding in so many ways.

Glad the power came back, SCG! We had some shorter outages like that during the last storm. I think they must have shut the power off to fix something. It is crazy that they are still fixing lines from the old storm. I wouldn't want to be one of those people, because I think they will plummet back down the priority list if more populated areas go dark.

I was just going to suggest filling a few pots and jugs for those who haven't already. I have wood stoves here so we'll be warm and have a spot to cook. Would you believe I prefer to use that over my gas stove? The animal houses will be snowed in soon enough and the fences useless. The snow will be so high the critters can just hop over them!

I guess its good we aren't incubating yet. All these power outtages would stink!

For all of you folks looking at power outages where a generator is not an option: for about $40, you can buy a convertor that will hook up to a car battery and crank out up to 450W. It's great to have around when running an incubator, or even just to run a couple of lights during a prolonged outage. Obviously, it's a very short term, low wattage fix but is definitely a stress buster. I've even used it in the car to run a nebulizer tx. for my 7 y.o. (it also plugs into the cigarette lighter.)

Thanks for the reminder about water, Ash!

Widgett, Bennett is such a looker. What a wonderful thing to have foster care available for these animals!
